EA has announced that the NHL 21 has been delayed by a month and will now release in October 2020 rather than its normal September launch window. According to the official press release, EA cites that the delay is because the whole team has been working from home and they need a little more time to make some important changes in the game. This year has been really extraordinary so delays are normal for many game franchises this year.
According to EA, the transition to work from home on NHL 21 has been a success and the development is going right on track and the game is now feature-complete. The additional time will allow them to polish the game, fine-tune it and iron out a few bugs left in the code. All of this is pretty important to deliver the best possible experience for the community. The publisher has also stated that we will be able to get out first look at NHL 21 in late August 2021 and more details will be shared closer to the reveal.

Another important news that comes from EA is that NHL 21 will not feature a next-gen version for PS5 and Xbox Series X. EA details that NHL 21 has been made with PS4 and Xbox One in mind and it will be forward-compatible with PS5 and Xbox Series X however it will not feature any additional features or improvements. It will offer pretty much the same experience as that of the PS4 and Xbox One version. If you were looking forward to a next-gen release of NHL, chances are that NHL 22 will be a complete next-gen title and it will make full use of the next-gen’s power and fidelity.
To make up to its community, EA has offered all players some complementary HUT packs in the store and WOC bags in their inventories. A full reveal of NHL 21 is now scheduled for late August 2020 while the game is now slated for release on Xbox One, PC, and PS4 in October 2020.
