Ever since the announcement of the AMD Ryzen 4000 series, all eyes are now at AMD’s next series of processors. AMD Ryzen 3000 series processors were a big change for the computer industry. Not only did they leap over Intel in terms of price to performance, but they also forced Intel’s hand in many categories including a decrease in prices and introducing hyperthreading to all the line up in the 10th Generation processors.
But that was not enough for AMD as they look to further increase the gap between them and other competitors. On the first anniversary of the Ryzen 3000 series release, AMD CEO Lisa Su said in a video that the next-generation chips are performing great and that they are on track to release later this year.
AMD’S Ryzen 4000 series desktop processors will be based on Zen 3 7nm+ architecture. This will be the first time since the launch of the Ryzen series processors that the architecture of the chips will not change. Like the Ryzen 3000 series, the 4000 series Ryzen processors will be based on the 7nm platform. And according to reports, the jump to the 5nm is not expected until late 2021 and 2022.
So far there have only been a few technical specification leaks about the desktop series of Ryzen 4000 processors. Specifications pulled from for the engineering samples show that the Ryzen 4000 Vermeer CPU lineup will be headed up by a 16-core, 32-thread processor. It will most likely be the successor to Ryzen 9 3950X.
Leaked benchmark test shows that this chip will have a base clock of 3.7GHz and a boost clock of 4.6GHz. If we compare these to the Ryzen 9 3950X, there is a 200MHz increase to the base clock, while the boost clock has been decreased a 100MHz.
Another leak shows that along with 3950x’s successor, there are three 8C/16T chips. They have 4GHz and 4.6GHz base and boost clock speeds respectively. These are most probably part of the Ryzen 7 lineup.
So far, this is all the information that has leaked regarding the AMD Ryzen 4000 series desktop processors. We will have to wait for more leaks or official word to see what is in store from AMD.
