During a recent meeting, AMD revealed its Q2 earnings and a detailed roadmap for the future. AMD’s second-quarter earnings have exceeded all expectations and forecasts as they post $1.93 billion in revenue and a quarterly profit of $157 million from notebook and server processor sales. AMD CEO Lisa Su revealed these numbers after the closing of Tuesday afternoon. She also revealed that many of the anticipated product launches are still on schedule to release in 2020.
This includes the Ryzen 4000 series desktop processors, which are its 7nm processors based on Zen 3 architecture. The products also include the RDNA 2/Big Navi graphics cards. Lisa Su also shared with that AMD began initial production and shipment of next-gen console chips, including for the PS5 and the Xbox Series X. Both these consoles are scheduled to be released at the end of the year in the holidays. Both of the consoles will feature CPUs and GPUs from AMD.
Lisa Su said that she is very proud of everyone that has worked hard to achieve this status. “I am very proud of the progress we have made over the last few years, placing AMD on a long-term growth trajectory”, said Lisa Su. “I’m even more excited about the opportunities in front of us as we enter our next phase of growth driven by accelerating our business in multiple markets.”
She shared that a big part of AMD’s success during the 2nd quarter was the Ryzen 4000 mobile processors which released earlier this year. She said that the revenue from these processors was so huge that these processors ramped the revenue up faster than any mobile processor in AMD’s history.
More good news is that AMD has already elevated its standing with investors last week after Intel announced delays to its 7-nanometer processors to 2022. AMD also met its target of double-digit server chip market share as its data center chips made up more than 20% of second-quarter revenue.
