Google Announces Pixel 4A, Pre-Orders Live, Shipping Starts Later This Month

Google Pixel 4A

Google has announced three new phones, the Pixel 5, Pixel 4A 5G, and Pixel 4A. The Pixel 4A will be the first to hit the market and is available for preorder. Shipping will start on August 20th. The flagship Pixel 5 and the 5G version of Pixel 4a are set to release later this fall.

The Pixel 4A starts at $349 and has only one color (black). Unlike the previous year, there will be no XL version for the Pixel 4A. The phone has 128gb of internal storage, which is double from last year. The phone boasts 6gb ram which is 2gb more than the Pixel 3a. The body is made of high-quality, soft-touch polycarbonate which provides a very nice feel. The screen is a 5.8-inch OLED FHD+ display with relatively small bezels all around.

The display resolution is 2340×1080 pixels and has a 19.5:9 ratio. The screen of pixel 4A is about 5% bigger than last year’s pixel 3A. The fingerprint sensor is placed on the back and works great. One of the big shocks is the inclusion of the now rare headphone jack, which is great considering the price point. The phone has a USB Type-C port for power.

The selling point for the phone will be its amazing camera. The phone only has a single 12.2 Megapixel camera, which is capable of video recording at 4K@ 30 FPS and also at 30 to 120 FPS at 1080p. The camera beats all its competitors in the price range. The camera lacks the second camera for optical zoom from Pixel 4 but keeps most of its software features including Google’s industry-leading Night Sight for super low-light photography, an astrophotography mode to shoot the stars and live HDR+.

The front camera is an 8MP, and it does not have an ultrawide like Pixel 4. The Pixel 4A is running Android 10 which provides a fast, snappy experience. The buyers can expect a minimum of three years of operating system and security updates. The battery life is increased to 3,140-mAh which is about 300mAh more than the Pixel 4.

All in all, Google Pixel 4A is one of the best if not the best option in the price range. Though it doesn’t have some flagship features like water-resistance and wireless charging, it provides all one will need for just $350.
