Microsoft has announced that it has purchased Bethesda, the critically-acclaimed developer of many famous titles like The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Wolfenstein, DOOM, Dishonored, Quake, Starfield, and many others. Microsoft acquired ZeniMax Media, the parent company of Bethesda Softworks, making it the owner of the new developer, and this adding all of its video game franchises under its umbrella.
Microsoft revealed that as part of the new acquisition, around 2,300 people working worldwide in various development studios of Bethesda are now part of Microsoft. These developing studios include Bethesda Softworks, Bethesda Game Studios, id Software, ZeniMax Online Studios, Arkane, MachineGames, Tango Gameworks, Alpha Dog, and Roundhouse Studios. All of these studios develop many AAA titles like The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Wolfenstein, DOOM, Dishonored, Prey, Quake, Starfield, and many others.
Announced by Phil Spencer on the official Xbox Wire, he stated in his statement that Bethesda was one of the earliest supporters or Xbox Game Pass as they brought their games to the service. Bethesda is also actively investing in bringing the power of the cloud into its games. Phil Spencer also stated that he is looking forward to the roadmap of Bethesda that includes new games, upcoming titles, and many unannounced titles. All of the future games will now come on Xbox and PC.
This could mean that all past, present, and future titles by Bethesda will now be a permanent part of Xbox Game Pass and unlike other third-party titles that leave the service after some time, Bethesda titles will now remain part of the service forever. This is actually huge for Microsoft because this would mean that players will now have access to all future Fallout, DOOM, The Elder Scrolls, Wolfenstein right at launch on Xbox Game Pass for Xbox and Windows.
