Apple has finally announced a date for the iPhone 12 launch event. Apple has announced that its iPhone 12 event will be held on October 13 and the event has been named as ‘Hi, Speed’. This is the first in a long time that Apple has not launched its new iPhones in September due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

The date that Apple has announced for its ‘Hi, Speed’ iPhone 12 reveal event is the same that was previously seen in recent rumors, tweets, and updates. There have been several leaks regarding the upcoming iPhone 12 series including a mini iPhone 12 as well.

The anonymous Twitter leaker l0vetodream tweeted the names of the upcoming iPhone 12 phones and the list included a total of 4 iPhone 12s. They will be called iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max. This would be the first time that Apple would be using the ‘mini’ branding for an iPhone.

Apple has used the ‘mini’ naming scheme previously for its other products line up like the iPod mini, Mac mini, and iPad mini. But for the first time, we will see a mini iPhone. According to leaks, the iPhone 12 will be releasing in 4 different sizes which are as followed:

  • iPhone 12 mini (5.4-inch)
  • iPhone 12 (6.1-inch)
  • iPhone 12 Pro (5.8-inch)
  • iPhone 12 Pro Max (6.7-inch)

This time, all the new iPhone 12 devices are believed to feature OLED displays. Currently, it is rumored that the only model to feature a higher 120 Hz display is the iPhone 12 Pro Max which will also feature a LiDAR Camera. All models are believed to be powered by the Apple A14 chips, support for 5G cellular networking, and more RAM. The major differentiating factor between these new iPhone 12 models will be the number of cameras. The Pro models will ship with more than three cameras, while the non-Pro models will ship with two cameras.

However, none of the devices in the iPhone 12 lineup will ship with bundled earbuds or charger for the first time. Apple foreshadowed this move by announcing that the Apple Watch Series 6 will not come with a power adapter as well, citing environmental reasons.

We may also see the AirPods Studio getting announced at the ‘Hi, Speed’ event. This development may also suggest that Apple could unveil the HomePod mini during its ‘Hi, Speed’ iPhone 12 event. ‘Hi, Speed’ event name may be Apple trying to talk up their A14 Bionic Chip which will feature in the upcoming iPhone 12s. We won’t have to wait much longer to see what Apple has in store for us. Make sure to check out the reveals and announcements from the previous Apple ‘Time Flies’ event as well and a detailed rundown of all the new features in iOS 14.
