A benchmark of AMD Ryzen 5000 series’ flagship CPU the Ryzen 9 5950X has been spotted in the Geekbench benchmark database and it shows incredible clock speed and performance figures of the Ryzen 9 5950X. The benchmark was spotted by Twitter user TUM_APISAK and in the benchmark, the flagship 16 core chip is seen running at a mind-blowing 6 GHz.
There are two entries in the Geekbench benchmark database, as discovered by @TUM_APISAK. The entries do not list the Ryzen 9 5950X name directly but use AMD OPN code (100-000000059-37_46/35_N), which can then be traced back to the CPU through AMD’s own website.
In the Geekbench benchmark, the AMD Ryzen 9 5950X CPU can be seen overclocked to 6 GHz and running on Apple’s macOS. The clock speed is surprising many people as it was achieved in the Apple macOS environment which is unusual for an overclocked entry of an unreleased chip to appear, that too that with LN2 cooling. It is currently unknown if this is really overclocking or a software bug, but the data collected by the benchmark is quite clear.
It is very likely that a Hackintosh system was used to perform this benchmark with MacOS 10.15.7 (Built 19H2) operating system. The benchmark lists the device as an iMac Pro but that is very unlikely. The chip used was also the Ryzen 9 5950X as its OPN code matches the website code for the flagship chip.
In the benchmarks, there are two entries for the Ryzen 9 5950X and both show the chip running at clock speeds of 6 GHz. The Geekbench database “.gb5” file shows that the clock speed was indeed running at an average clock speed of 6.0 GHz (5931-6023 MHz).
Twitter user Harukaze5719 created a chart comparing the AMD Ryzen 9 5950X with the Ryzen 9 3900X. Benchmarks compiled by Harukaze5719 show that the AMD Ryzen 9 5950X is around 10% faster than the 12 core Ryzen 9 3900X at 5.88 GHz in multi-threaded and around 20% faster than the chip in single-threaded tests.
The AMD Ryzen 5000 Desktop CPUs, codenamed Vermeer, will be launching on the 5th of November. The launch lineup will include the 16 core Ryzen 9 5950X, the 12 core Ryzen 9 5900X, the 8 core Ryzen 7 5800X, and the 6 core Ryzen 5 5600X.
