Cyberpunk 2077 Delayed Again, CD Projekt Red Pushes Date to December

CD Projekt Red’s upcoming title Cyberpunk 2077 has yet again been delayed as the studio pushes the release date by 21 days. The highly anticipated game of this year will now release on December 10, 2020.

This was the most unexpected move by the studio especially after the game had gone gold recently, and also after the studio had confirmed previously that there won’t be any more delays. However, CD Projekt Red has come up with yet another statement explaining why the studio has delayed it by 21 days.

The announcement was made by the director and co-founder of the studio, Adam Badowski on Twitter.

Today, we’ve decided to move the release date of Cyberpunk 2077 by 21 days. The new release date is December 10th. Most likely, there are many emotions and questions in your heads, so, first and foremost, please accept our humble apologies.

The biggest challenge for us right now is shipping the game on current-gen, next-gen and PC at the same time, which requires us to prepare and test 9 versions of it… while working from home. Since Cyberpunk 2077 evolved towards almost being a next-gen title somewhere along the way, we need to make sure everything works well and every version runs smoothly. We are aware it might seem unrealistic when someone says that 21 days can make any difference in such a massive and complete game, but they really do.

Cyberpunk 2077 officially went gold earlier this month, assuring everyone that the game is set for the November release date. But this may be the first where a game has been delayed right after going gold, prior to a few weeks before release.

Some of you might also be wondering what these words mean in light of us saying we achieved gold master some time ago. Passing certifications, or ‘going gold’, means the game is ready, can be completed, and has all content in it. But it doesn’t mean we stop working on it and raising the quality bar. On the contrary, this is the time where many improvements are being made which will then be distributed via a Day 0 patch. This is the time period we undercalculated.

Is this the last time Cyberpunk 2077 is going to be delayed? If the studio can go to any lengths to make their product better, then they can change the course of a release date any time. We hope this is the final delay for the game and that it does release in December once and for all.
