Google has Codenamed Android 12 ‘Snow Cone’ Internally

Android 12 Snow Cone

According to the latest news, Google has currently codenamed the upcoming Android 12 as ‘Snow Cone’. According to the information, Google is internally calling Android 12 Snow Cone but it won’t release the final version with this name, and it will most probably be called just Android 12.

Android had a long history of naming its version after desserts and sweets. But with Android 11, Google made a bold move and ditched dessert naming schemes for Android and settled on version numbers instead, with Android 11 being the latest release.

According to XDA, Android 11 also had an internal name based on a dessert, and it was called ‘Red Velvet Cake’. But then Google decided to ditch the old naming scheme and began using numbers for the new versions.

So, Snow Cone also looks to be just an internal code name for Android 12 and we won’t be getting the naming scheme when it is released officially. Android 12 is all set for release as a developer preview sometime this month, and the final release should happen later this year.

Google Pixel smartphone users, especially Pixel 5 and Pixel 4 users will be getting optional beta versions on day one. But download the beta versions at your own risk, as Android betas are notorious when it comes to bugs and performance-related issues. It won’t be surprising at all if everything turns out to be a hot mess for the average user. It’s called ‘developer preview’ for a reason, and it’s something that everyone should respect.

Android 12 will bring lots of design changes to the user interface. Google is also making strict changes to privacy, giving more control to the user on what they want to share with an app. It is also reported that Android 12 will play nicely with third-party app stores.

Other than this, there is currently no other news about Android 12 and we will bring you more news on Android 12 as it arrives.
