NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Next GPU Rumored to Make a Comeback

Nvidia seems to be bringing back the iconic GeForce GTX 1080 Ti to help tackle the ongoing GPU shortage in the market. NVIDIA has been reintroducing many old graphics cards in the time of global supply shortage of the new generation of GPUs. Since the end of last year, gaming graphics cards have faced a huge shortage of supply. This has primarily been due to the arrival of a new generation of graphics cards and also the rise of crypto mining.

Yesterday, it was reported that NVIDIA is planning to fight this shortage of graphics cards around the globe by increasing the supply of GTX 1650, which is one of its most popular, entry-level graphics cards. And now, another rumor has surfaced which reports that NVIDIA might be planning to bring back the GTX 1080 Ti.

According to a forum submission posted over at Quasar Zone, a user has received a freshly produced batch of GeForce GTX 1080 Ti graphics card after he had sent his old 1080 Ti for repair. The GTX 1080 Ti is based on the GP102 GPU that provided a huge performance increase compared to the previous generation of Maxwell architecture GPUs.

According to the post on the Quasar Zone forums, a user RMA’d his old GTX 1080 Ti graphics card has received a new one and what’s surprising is that the card has a production date of 2021. This information was gathered by Harukaze on Twitter.

The GTX 1080 Ti in discussion is EVGA’s SC model. Another user said that the FTW model he has recently received also features a production date of 2021. EVGA issues a warranty of 3 years on for its NVIDIA graphics cards.

It would not make sense for the company to produce new batches of a card that has been replaced by newer offerings, or even if it was to serve warranty, most replacement units are produced early on rather than four years after launch.

NVIDIA has taken multiple steps to tackle the gaming graphic card shortage during this uncertain time. A few months back, NVIDIA decided to increase the supply of its Turing-based GeForce RTX 2060 & the Pascal-based GeForce GTX 1050 series graphics cards to DIY and OEM segments to streamline things in the mainstream segment.

And increasing the production of the NVIDIA GTX 1650 is the latest step from the company. So the GTX 1080 Ti might be making a comeback as well to tackle the graphic card shortage.
