Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart Dr Nefarious Boss Guide

This Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart Dr Nefarious Boss Guide will show you how to take on the main antagonist of the game who comes in different stages of the story to fight against you. The first fight against Dr Nefarious begins in the Prologue, making two more appearances in the middle and the end of the story.

In the final battle with Dr Nefarious, you also have to fight Emperor Nefarious. Having said that, this guide will detail the first two boss battles with Dr Nefarious. In both instances, you will not be succeeding in beating the boss as it is not intended to be the case until you reach the end of the game.

However, the battle will be typical to any boss fight, where Dr Nefarious will come attacking you with various types of attacks. It is only when you complete the full boss fight where Dr Nefarious will succeed in getting out.

Below we have detailed both eh Prologue and the Arena where Dr Nefarious makes an appearance to fight you.

Dr Nefarious – Prologue

This boss fight ensues in the Prologue where you chase after Dr Nefarious when he ambushes you in the parade. Once you successfully chase him down, he will begin his laser attacks with a horizontal sweep. This attack can be jumped over as it passes under you.

This boss fight is not meant to overwhelm you and will make things easier for you by making any use of a weapon a good choice. However, the boss does have a health bar, which can be reduced greatly if you have a decent weapon like the Enforcer Rifle. This weapon gives you some range but is even more deadly when fired up close.

Every time you get a couple of good hits, Nefarious will resort to calling up his minions to fight alongside him. In this stage, you should focus on the minions and completely taking them out before you return to the boss

If you get caught in a few hits by the boss, there are plenty of health crates in the battle area where you can be on the backfoot and heal up.

In the later stages of this fight, Dr Nefarious will bring in a Rocket attack, which is indicated by the red highlights on the ground where they will land. You can easily move sideways to avoid the rockets completely. Another attack is with the laser beam which you can always avoid by keeping to either side, away from the direction of the beam.

Dr Nefarious – Arena

This is the second appearance of Dr Nefarious in the later stages of the story and is also the first real challenge this boss will give you a taste of. The fight itself progresses in four phases, where the first stage ends when reaches 80% of the boss’s health. In this first phase, you can go for medium to long-range weapons, while occasionally hitting him with melee attacks as he gets close to you.

The boss will be using his melee attacks and will shoot at you from a distance if you are not to close to be in the melee attack range. You have to be careful about the melee attacks as they are pretty quick and pretty hard to get to timing right in order to avoid them.

In the second phase after the rail slide, Nefarious will bring out a few new attacks but will mainly hit you with the melee attacks when you are in range. The other new attack is the green missiles that hit all around the circular battle area. Both the melee attack and the missiles can be avoided using your Phantom Dash ability to dash to the side.

The third phase of the fight begins when you have drained half of the boss’s health. Dr. Nefarious will bring a Grunthor to fight against you but takes over when you have successfully taken out the Grunthor. The only new attack in this are the rockets that land on half the battle area. These are again indicated by the highlight on the ground, letting you know where they are going to hit.

The final stage begins with Dr Nefarious left with only a quarter of health left. The boss will summon his minions to fight you first, and then take over the reins when it backfires and you take out all the smaller enemies.
