This guide will show you how to beat Gold Joe in Noe More Heroes 3, who is the second boss you will be facing and has a number 9 Galactic Ranking. Gold Joe comes after your first battle with Mr. Blackhole.
You will be fighting Gold Joe in three phases, indicated by the three colors of his health bar are green, yellow, and red.
How to Beat Gold Joe in No More Heroes 3
The first stage of the battle is quite interesting as the battle area will be an important part of the fight. As you fight the boss, Gold Joe will change his color from either red or blue and attack you. This is where you need to stand on the matching color tiles on the floor to avoid getting hit.
But before that, you still have to avoid most of Gold Joe’s attacks which begin with his forward sword slash that hits anywhere except when you standing right in front of the boss. When that doesn’t work, he will throw his sword that comes in a circular pattern, forcing you to dodge out of the way.
When counter attacking, you have to make sure that your own attacks get registered. This can only be done when you have a different color polarity compared to the boss. Having the same color polarity nullifies damages on both sides, so you will have to be quick on your feet when attacking and trying to avoid incoming attacks from Gold Joe.
In the second phase of the fight, when Gold Joe’s health reaches yellow, the boss will continue with the same attacks with the addition of the crystals that he summons from the sides of the battle area. These crystals come crashing into each other, but can be avoided if you stand on a different color polarity.
The third part of the phase is quite interesting and will require you to be sharp in anticipation to what Gold Joe is about to do. Gold Joe will come at you with two different approaches to attack you, relying more on his color polarity ability. One of the attacks is where he will push you into the lasers, while the other is where he brings you in for a slash attack.
Your strategy here is to identify what the boss is doing before the attack begins. When Gold Joe begins the polarity, you have to look if the boss is coming at you or if he is staying in one place. When the boss is coming at you, you have to switch to the same color to avoid getting hit. This is because whenever Gold Joe is coming at you, it is with the intention to slash attack. This attack cannot be avoided but its damage can be nullified if you have the same color.
The best way to counterattack is when the boss stays still while beginning the polarity. This is because he tries to force you and push you into the lasers. However, having a different color as to the boss will force you onto him, inviting you for a juicy attacking opportunity.
