Indie publisher Ratalaika Games and Finland-based developer Woblyware have announced the release date of their upcoming title Royal Frontier. Royal Frontier is a roguelike turn-based strategy game and it is slated for release on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch on March 18, 2022.
The developer details Royal Frontier as a roguelite styled, lighthearted, turn-based, strategic adventure. You take control of a group of heroes who must guide and clear the way for a group of Settlers who are heading East, across the perilous continent. You will make hard choices here as you choose the right paths, make the right decisions while making the most of the resources you have available.
Staying true to the roguelike formula, each run in the game will be different and you will unlock additional heroes with progression. You will also get access to more powerful blessings along the way as you push to the final boss of the game. The game offers 60 optional challenges that range from surviving 4 days without taking any damage to hunting down Old Sawtooth, an ancient grizzly living in the heart of the forest.
Key features of Royal Frontier include:
- Unlock characters and power ups for your next trip
- Use the gold to buy weapons and equipment
- Take decisions that can help or hurt your party
- Turn-based and time-based combat
- Choose your road wisely
You will have a wide variety of spells, items, and heroes to choose from as you take on a variety of monsters. This ensures that each run is interesting as well. Paths and events are randomly chosen for each run, and you can also combine different heroes together in order to try out new tactics and finding the right combination of heroes.
You will get to choose 3 heroes from 6 before each run and 3 blessings from a selection of 48. The blessings act in different ways so they could be buffs for your party or passive abilities that could increase the chances of survival. Enemies range from lowly goblins to powerful ogres. Each area will have a boss at the end along with optional bosses scattered throughout the levels that offer greater challenges and rewards.
