Stardock’s award-winning space 4x strategy sandbox game Galactic Civilizations IV gets a release date which is set for April 26, 2022. The game brings all of the best features from the previous games and adds new features that include multi-sector maps, mid-game civilization customizations via policies, internal factions, unique missions and quests system, among many other features.
But before we dive into the details of the new features that Galactic Civilizations IV is going to bring, check out the trailer below:
As the all-powerful leader of a spacefaring civilization, players will seek out new star systems and discover the exciting potential of the subspace realm. With over a dozen starting civilizations to choose from – plus the ability to create unique custom civilizations from scratch – the possibilities for each playthrough are endless, leaving players with a truly unique experience every time they start up a new game.
One of the main new features in the latest game are the Multi-Sector maps, which add a new depth to the scope of Galactic Civilizations IV. Although you will still be able to play a smaller map, the ability to have a large map with multiple sectors brings a true feeling of galactic conquest and exploration. Each sector is connected by subspace streams that allow players to travel in between them.
Citizens in the last game were introduced for the first time, but their roles were not as distinct. Galactic Civilizations IV allows citizens to have their own individual ratings, where players will have to keep them happy. The story of the game will depend on which characters are recruited and how their various backstories play out.
Another unique aspect of Galactic Civilizations IV is how the players will now be able to set and update policies and issue executive orders during gameplay. Policies will let you shift priorities, while executive orders will let you spend new resources like print money or draft colonies.
Brad Wardell, Stardock CEO had this to say about the game,
Galactic Civilizations IV is the result of years of thinking about the exciting innovations that have been occurring in strategy games. We want to give players the ultimate turn-based strategy experience, and we’ve accomplished this by adding in tons of new features that add to the depth and scope of the game while incorporating feedback over several alpha and beta testing phases.
