Sega is Working on Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio Reboots

Sega is reportedly working on bringing its iconic games back to life where two of the popular games are getting reboots: Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio. According to a report by Bloomberg, the studio is developing big-budget reboots of its Dreamcast games.

What was previously thought to be AAA titles turned out to be reboots of the classic games in this initiative by Sega.

However, the report also mentions that both the games are still in early development, which puts some uncertainty over the launch of the game. Having said that, Crazy Taxi is believed to be in development for some time now, and if completed, we might get to see a launch in 2024 or beyond.

Another interesting point the report raises is that Sega intends to follow the Fortnite template of Epic Games by making the games free-to-play, and available on multiple platforms, bringing in various items and events. This suggests that the game will feature microtransactions and rely on players spending real money on in-game items.

The original Crazy Taxi was one of the most popular Sega games that was released back in 1999, where players drove around a yellow cab, picking up passengers and dropping them off at their locations before the timer ran out. The game became an instant hit because of its humorous driving style, animations, and antics along with the music that accompanied and fit the gameplay.

There have been a handful of sequels of the game ever since, but none that came even close to the significance of the original Crazy Taxi. Back in 2020, Team6 Studios and GS2 Games announced a sequel for the game titled Taxi Chaos, which was eventually released last year with Eega onboard as a distributor.

The game launched on multiple platforms available on consoles and PC but was met with mixed reviews. An official reboot by Sega creates a much-needed hype for the game which in the gaming world of today deserves a proper reboot by the original creator.
