11 bit studios has announced its brand-new IP The Alters with an action-packed trailer that is developed with the spirit of meaningful entertainment. The Alters comes after the launch of critically-acclaimed titles including This War of Mine and Frostpunk. The Alters is a unique concept where you get to know what happens if someone creates alternate versions of themselves, each representing a different personality based on their life paths.

The Alters follows the story of Jan Dolski, a simple worker who is currently facing circumstances that led him to a life-changing crossroads. After crash landing on a distant planet, Jan is stranded and alone and finds himself in a daunting life-and-death situation. His only hope of survival is to bring additional hands aboard and for this, he creates multiple versions of himself. Jan does this without understanding the weight of his choice and he ends up creating more than what he had bargained for.
Tomasz Kisilewicz, Game Director of The Alters explains the concept of the game as:
These are not clones. They are the alters. Alternative versions of the same person. Each alter has a different skill set necessary to achieve success, but players have to take care of every one of them. And each one of them has a unique personality resulting from their unique life path. How those life paths go and how those relationships are built – it’s entirely up to you as a player.
The Alters is no different than a classic piece of science fiction in the manner that it allows you to investigate a compelling and at times relatable topic through the lens of its uniquely futuristic setting. The Alters is under development at one of the three in-house development teams at 11 bit studios which mostly comprises people from the team behind This War of Mine. The Alters has been in development for nearly three years and it is powered by Unreal Engine.
