Squanch Games revealed their brand-new shooter High on Life earlier this month during Xbox & Bethesda Showcase 2022 and have now released a new animated short for the title. The latest animated short is named ‘Guy in a Hole’ and is one of the little shorts that will be featured in the game when it launched this year on consoles and PC. Check it out below before we jump into additional details about the game:
High On Life Guy In A Hole Short
High on Life is a unique space shooter that comes from the mind of Justin Roiland who is known as the man behind Rick and Morty and Solar Opposites. The development team is the same one who released Trover Saves the Universe so you can expect some similarities in the art design and gameplay mechanics between the two titles. In High on Life, an alien cartel has invaded Earth and they are selling the kidnapped humans however a high-school graduate is taking none of that and he decides to become the deadliest intergalactic bounty hunter across the cosmos.
The aliens want to dominate the planet Earth and in doing so, they will enslave all of humanity and turn them into a new drug. To prevent all of this from happening, you will need to work with and against NPCs, collect upgrades, and acquire a vast arsenal of talking guns as you travel through the galaxy. Each gun brings its own unique traits and personality with it and they will give you their own narrative on what is happening around you at all times.
Mike Fridley, Squanch’s Studio Director said:
We like to flex our creative muscles and try new things. If you look at our previous work, I think you’ll pick up on that. At the same time, Justin’s unique comedic voice ties all of our games together. We want fans to be able to look at one of our games and immediately know that it’s from Squanch. They know it’ll be funny, but that it’ll also be a great experience that’s fun to play. High On Life is a first-person shooter, and we’re taking what we love about that genre and pushing it in a really squanchy direction.
As a bounty hunter, you will travel between planets during your adventure and visit memorable locations such as a dense and dangerous jungle, a city built deep inside an asteroid, and a variety of other dynamic and changing worlds. On your adventures, you will also run into dangerous alien life which is both wildlife and NPCs and some of the weird aliens will also help you in various ways. Justin Roiland at the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase 2022 aftershow detailed:
I wanted to make games that I wanted to play, and that was the spark that sort of lit the fire of Squanch Games. Then we shipped Trover, we shipped Accounting+, and now we’re on this absolute dream game that we were kind of building towards this whole time.
High on Life is slated for release on October 25, 2022, on PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and Xbox Series X|S. Additional details about the game will be revealed in the upcoming months so make sure that you keep checking back for additional information as this space will be updated regularly.
