Developer Jaspel has announced the early access release date of its inventory management roguelike Backpack Hero. Backpack Hero will release on August 15, 2022, on PC in Early Access and it will bring exclusive features with it as well such as two new characters, a handful of cool new items, weapons, and more. Backpack Hero is all about hoarding epic loot and keeping it organized to maximize your run.
In Backpack Hero, you take on the role of a brave adventurer who is exploring vast dungeons and picking up piles of loot. While down in the dungeons, you will also come across various enemies that you must deal with using the things that can fit inside your backpacks. However, to make things easier for you, you come with a skill called inventory management and it comes in handy. The placement of items in your inventory plays a vital role in the game as well.
For example, if you place some of the items next to pieces of armor, it will increase the effectiveness of the armor and you will get additional protection while wearing such pieces of armor. Similarly, some items prefer some space around them, and their effectiveness is increased when they have empty spaces around them. Apart from placement, some of the items in your inventory also have status effects and abilities.

Some of the items can also give passive or active status effects to your enemies such as weapons with poison as their status effect or some may even slow down your enemies. Some of the items may even heal you in return while some items could even damage your health if they remain in your inventory. For your survival, you will need to gather the best items, strategize their placement in your backpack and manage them as you collect more loot.
For its Early Access release, the game will feature some new details and additional content as well. The stoney walls of the dungeons will have a new texture while players will also find new items, weapons, and enemies throughout the dungeons. New players will also get to choose from two new characters Tote the Frog and CR-8 the Robot. Key features of Backpack Hero include:
- Hundreds of Items: Each item has its own unique effect and, depending on where you place it in your backpack, can be powerful when used in the arrangement.
- Multiple fun characters: Adventure through the dungeons as Purse the Packrat, Tote the Toad, or CR8 the Robot.
- 40+ Enemies to Battle: Test your mettle and your organizational skills against powerful enemies small to large to everything in between.
- Endless Dungeons to Explore: Randomly generated dungeons mean that not a single playthrough will be exactly like the last.
Backpack Hero is slated for its early access release on August 15, 2022. You can head over to Steam and add the game to your wishlist right now if it strikes your interest. Additional details about the game will be revealed later and the developer might share an early access development roadmap of the game as well.
