Elsie: Rogue-like Action Platformer Release Date Announced

Publisher Playtonic Friends and developer Knight Shift Games have revealed the release date of their upcoming rogue-like action platformer, Elsie. Elsie is set to launch on September 10th, 2024, on PC, PS5, and Nintendo Switch.

In Elsie, players join the titular protagonist on a quest through a visually striking neo-retro world, where procedurally generated levels and a multitude of hostile robots lie in wait. Set on the planet Ekis, the storyline follows Elsie’s mission to find The Guardians—a group of high-tech androids designed to protect the population. The Guardians have vanished, and their disappearance holds the key to resolving the calamities that have struck the planet.

In celebration of the game’s official release date, Playtonic Friends commissioned an action-packed animated trailer created by renowned animator David Liu. Complementing this visual treat, popular anime and video game voice actor Elsie Lovelock—who voices the protagonist—has recorded a new theme song for the trailer. Check it out below:

Elsie presents a unique blend of neo-retro aesthetics and hyperkinetic gameplay, making it a standout in the rogue-like genre. Following a devastating attack on the City of Neotoño, the narrative unfolds with Dr. Grey, a scientist who seeks refuge in a beachside fortress called Sapir Wharf. There, she creates Elsie, an android tasked with solving the mystery behind the attack and rescuing Ekis from its ongoing disasters.

The gameplay mechanics of Elsie emphasize speed, precision, and strategic combat. Players will navigate through levels by dashing, diving, and shooting while engaging in high-intensity battles against various enemies and bosses. A distinctive parry system allows players to perform precision-based defenses, enhancing the combat experience and adding a layer of depth to the platforming action. The rogue-like elements ensure that each playthrough is different, as players must continually adapt to new challenges and obstacles.
