The Pégases Awards 2025 Ceremony, held last week at La Cigale in Paris, celebrated the best of the French video game industry. Hosted by Salomé Lagresle, the event brought together developers, industry leaders, and fans to honor the most innovative and influential games of 2024. With 18 awards presented across various categories, the ceremony highlighted the diversity and creativity driving France’s gaming scene.
One of the evening’s biggest winners was Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, developed by Ubisoft Montpellier, which took home four prestigious Pégases. Released in January 2024, the game captivated audiences with its 2.5D action-adventure style, blending intense combat with time manipulation mechanics. Players follow Sargon, a warrior on a quest to rescue Prince Ghassan in a world where the laws of time are breaking down. The game was recognized for Best Sound Universe, Best Game Design, Best Accessibility, and the coveted Best Video Game award.
The ceremony also highlighted the contributions of game studios from across France’s regions, emphasizing the nation’s rich creative landscape. From Parisian titles like Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden by Don’t Nod and Dark Hours by Piece of Cake Studio to Bordeaux’s Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 by Asobo Studio and La Rochelle’s Les Fourmis by Tower Five, the awards showcased a wide range of regional talent. Lyon’s Passtech Games and their roguelike Ravenswatch, as well as Roubaix-based Ankama with their beloved MMORPG Dofus, also received notable recognition.
In addition to professional studios, the ceremony celebrated emerging talent from leading video game schools. Students from E-Artsup, Isart Digital, and Rubika competed for the Best Student Game award, emphasizing the importance of nurturing the next generation of game developers.
A highlight of the evening was the appearance of Clara Chappaz, Minister Delegate for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Affairs, who presented the Personality of the Year award to Romain de Waubert, co-founder of Amplitude Studios. Her presence underscored the French government’s commitment to supporting the country’s growing video game industry.
The ceremony also treated attendees to six exclusive announcements. Ubisoft shared a video featuring Thomas Joly, Artistic Director of the Olympic Games Ceremony, teasing a special Assassin’s Creed tribute during the upcoming event. Wild Wits Games unveiled the first trailer for its new game, Crown Gambit, while Gameloft provided an early look at its upcoming Carmen Sandiego title. ZDT Studio introduced Darwin’s Paradox, scheduled for release in 2025, with an exclusive preview. Meanwhile, Dotemu surprised fans by announcing the immediate release of MainFrames, and Blue Banshee revealed Maliki, which officially launched on February 24.
The Pégases Ceremony, organized by the Académie des Arts et Techniques du Jeu Vidéo, continues to be a cornerstone event for the French gaming industry. Founded in 2020, the Académie represents over 2,500 members across five professional colleges and one honorary college. Its mission is to celebrate and promote the creativity of French game developers while fostering industry dialogue.
The ceremony is also supported by the Syndicat National du Jeu Vidéo (SNJV), the professional body representing video game production and publishing companies in France. Since its establishment in 2008, the SNJV has worked to enhance the competitiveness of the French gaming sector while advocating for industry interests with public authorities and the media. The SNJV was instrumental in founding the Académie des Arts et Techniques du Jeu Vidéo, further cementing its role as a driving force behind initiatives like the Pégases Awards.
