Using Diplomacy as a stronger suit can greatly increase your chances of survival in the game. Having some strong allies on the planet is always beneficial for your race and settlements. We have curated this Age of Wonders: Planetfall Diplomacy Guide, in which we have detailed everything that you will be required to do in the Diplomacy panel so that you can easily form allies, make friendships, and even declare wars on your former friends if they are not behaving like good friends.
Diplomacy Guide – Age of Wonders: Planetfall
Our Age of Wonders: Planetfall Diplomacy Guide details everything that you need to know about diplomacy in Age of Wonders: Planetfall.
Getting Started
After your Planetfall, you will begin exploring the planet and eventually start expanding the limits of your settlements across the planet. As you move deeper and deeper into a planet, you will come across many other settlements which are led by powerful leaders called Commanders who have the same idea as you, which isto expand and kill everyone who stands in the way. However, you must know that not all factions will be hostile towards you at the beginning.
Such factions could be proper settlements or even NPC factions. To first gain the trust of these NPC factions or other settlements, they will often give you different tasks which will ensure that both of you remain friends and gain trust level. As you continue to help out factions in various ways, they will open themselves to you and allow you to trade with them, which will allow you to purchase military units of that specific faction.
To check the current status of your Diplomacy with all the known factions and races on the current planet, open up your radial menu and choose the Diplomacy tab. This screen will show you all the factions that are currently led by Commanders, all known Races with information on them, as well as the NPC factions currently present on the planet. You should know that only discovered commanders and factions will be shown on this screen.
Apart from information on these commanders, factions, and races, this screen will also show you information on the current status of these commanders and factions. You can check the relationship of each commander and faction with yourself as well as others on the planet. You can form pacts and treaties with other commanders however you can only reach certain conditions with other factions such as war, peace or integration.
Managing Diplomacy
Managing Diplomacy is rather very simple in Age of Wonders: Planetfall. To form a pact or a treaty with any commander, simply open up the Democracy tab, scroll to the desired commander’s name, and click on them. Based on their actions and your past relationship with them, the screen will show you some options and your current status with them, as well as all other commanders on the screen. These include any pacts and treaties that they might have signed with other commanders located on the planet.
Once communication has started with the commander of your choice, you will have three main communication options. Negotiate, Pronouncements, and Declare War without Casus Belli. Casus Belli is an act or situation that provokes or justifies war. Without a Casus Belli, declaring war on other commanders will have serious consequences for both your own settlements and the opposing commander. Pronouncements are simple vocal messages that complement or insult their actions. You can also warn or denounce them for their previous actions that you did not like.
The main aspect of Diplomacy is the Negotiation tab. In this section, you can choose different Diplomatic options and send them as gifts or ask some certain actions in return to form a proposal. While the two options are selected, the screen in the middle will tell you if the deal is beneficial for you, balanced for both, or bad for us. Keeping this in mind, you can choose different options such as asking to become a vassal, offering a defense pact, opening borders, or allowing building in owned sectors.
If the other commander agrees on the terms, the pacts and treaties will be formed. You can also ask to become the Overlord if you are big enough, which puts the commander under you and all their settlements. This is, however, a late-game option, so make sure that you build your empire big and powerful in every way. The most common pacts that you can get easily are the Non-Aggression Pacts and Defensive Pacts. With these, you can request armies and be peaceful that these commanders will not attack you.
In certain cases, your friends might act against your will, and you might end up in a war, so you must be ready for every scenario in the game. Diplomacies are one of the strongest points of Age of Wonders: Planetfall, so you must ensure that you keep the bloodshed limited to your extreme enemies and try to keep good relations with other commanders and NPC races because they will be extremely beneficial to you in the long run.
