AMD’s Ryzen 4000G Renoir APUs sell out in Japan within hours after the official release, Japanese retailers have reported. AMD released their Ryzen Renoir 4000 series of APUs last month, which packs both the Zen 2 CPU and enhanced Vega GPU cores. But AMD prioritized delivering the APUs to OEMs and ODMs first.
But now, AMD has started releasing it to the consumers, as several retailers in the Asian Pacific markets now have access to the chips for the retail segment. And in Japan, the Renoir APUs sold out completely in just a few hours at some retailers.
The hype surrounding these chips may be the reason they sold out so quickly. The APUs have the Zen 2 processors which deliver almost equal performance to their CPU only counterparts. Combine them with the enhanced Vega graphics, which have been clocked at over 2 GHz in some of these APUs, provide enough power for 1080p gaming at medium to high settings.
The Renoir 4000G lineup consists of 9 APUs. Out of all of them, the Ryzen 7 4750G and the Ryzen 5 4650G are the most wanted. They have similar core count to their desktop CPU counterparts, and with the added Vega graphics provide a huge value for money to the consumers.
The Japanese retailers report that the AMD Ryzen 7 4750G was an instant hit. Some stores had entire inventory sold out within hours and many people had pre-booked the APUs for themselves. Some retailers even restocked full inventories the 2nd day and they also sold out in a few hours!
These sales figures were also accompanied by an apparent increase in the volume of AMD B550 motherboard sales. This is a strong indication that the DIY market in Japan is looking at midrange AMD hardware as a default choice for integrated gaming setups with some level of upgradability.
AMD has been rolling out products that have been liked by the customers both for their price and performance. They have overtaken Intel in the desktop market and now they are looking to strengthen themselves in other sectors of the market and the selling out of the new AMD Ryzen 4000G Renoir APUs bids a good stance for them.
