The next-generation Ryzen 8000 series CPUs, codenamed as ‘Granite Ridge’ has leaked out online. The AMD Ryzen 8000 series CPUs will be based on the Zen 5 architecture and these CPUs along with the Ryzen 8000 Desktop APUs which are codenamed as ‘Strix Point’ have been spotted in a leaked roadmap online.
This is the very first time the ‘Granite Ridge’ CPUs have been heard of. The Ryzen 8000 series CPUs will succeed the AMD Raphael Desktop CPUs. According to the leaked roadmap, AMD plans to stick with Ryzen 8000 branding for its Zen 5 powered Granite Ridge Mainstream Desktop CPUs and hybrid architecture-powered ‘Strix Point’ APUs.
The roadmap was posted on Twitter by HXL and it does not provide any special information regarding the Zen 5 platform. What we know about Ryzen 8000 Granite Ridge Desktop CPUs is that they will be compatible with the AM5 LGA1718 platform. They should feature onboard RDNA graphics similar to the Raphael CPUs. The earliest we can expect the Zen 5 Desktop CPUs to appear is 2023.
However, for the ‘Strix Point’ APUs, some information surfaced yesterday. AMD’s Strix Point Ryzen APUs will be offering a hybrid architecture that will work by combining two Zen core IPs. The main cores would be based on the Zen 5 architecture and the rest of the cores will rely on the Zen 4 architecture.

This is similar to Intel’s 12th Gen CPUs which will feature small Atom cores alongside the big cores.
The Zen 4 architecture is planned for launch sometime in 2022 while these APUs are expected to debut around 2024. It is stated that both Zen 5 and Zen 4 cores for Strix Point APUs will be based on the 3nm process node.
We will have to wait for more leaks and announcements to know more about the Ryzen 8000 series ‘Granite Ridge’ Desktop CPUs.
