Annapurna Interactive ‘Not Going Anywhere’ After Parent Company Seeks Bankruptcy Options

Annapurna Interactive

Outer Wilds publisher Annapurna Interactive has assured the community that they ‘are not going anywhere’ after parent company Annapurna Pictures is exploring bankruptcy options. Annapurna Interactive is known for games like Donut Country, What Remains of Edith Finch, Gorogoa, and its highly anticipated upcoming game Outer Wilds.

According to Hollywood Reporter, the company is seeking such options after a poor box office performance of their recent films. The news stated that the film publishing company has retained a law firm to explore bankruptcy protection.

PCGamer reports that following the news by the Hollywood Reported, the founder of the company Megan Ellison sent out a memo to the employees that stated,

Restructuring deals with financial institutions is not uncommon, yet the process is usually handled without a spotlight on it. Fortunately/unfortunately, people like to write about me and my family.

That said, it is of tremendous importance to me that you all know we are as committed as ever to this company and are in full support of our future. Regardless of whatever comes out in the press, the truth is that we are well on our continued path towards success. There will always be speculation, misinformation and personal jabs in the press—that’s part of the business. But know, none of that matters to me. What does is your sense of security and protecting the special community and culture at Annapurna. I believe in what we make and have no intention of stopping any time soon.

On the other hand, Annapurna Interactive is not worried and has assured that the company is not going anywhere.

While this in no way confirms bankruptcy is imminent, it is something that can cause uncertainty in the company and its workforce. While the game publishing company seems to be saying that all is good for now, it does not say what the future holds if its parent company is looking for such options. For now, the company is planning on its future releases and many unannounced titles that it has planned for the future.
