Apex Legends Might Support Cross-Play in the Future

Apex Legends Cross-Play

Respawn and EA surprised the whole world when the announced and released Apex Legends, a free-to-play battle royale game last night. It was an instant hit and right after release, it managed to cross 1 million players after just 8 hours.

In an exclusive interview to VG24/7, the design director at Respawn, Mackey McCandlish, explained that they have plans of bringing cross-play support to Apex Legends in the future. At launch, cross-play is not a feature supported by Apex Legends.

However, fans of the series can look forward to future updates because Respawn plans to bring cross-play support to Apex Legends in the future. He mentioned that it is something that the studio is very much interested in.

His official words to VG24/7 were

Cross-play is definitely an opportunity; it’s not something at launch. It’s definitely something we’re aware of and interested in. I can’t speak to whether or not we’ve had specific conversations. Right now it’s just like: ‘Let’s launch the game.

This will be a very big step in making Apex Legends even more consumer friendly because at this point, Fortnite is the biggest sensation in the battle royale world and Apex Legends shares one prominent feature with it.

This is that both are free-to-play. However, Fortnite has an added advantage that it supports cross-play between all devices whether mobile, console or PC. Players can play with any platform regardless of where they are playing.

If Respawn manages to bring such cross-play options to Apex Legends, it will really give Fortnite a run for its money. Both Blackout and PUGB are not free to play titles which is really setting them back in terms of traffic although both are stellar battle royale experiences.

Since it is already on their plans for the future, it is only a matter of time when cross-play arrives on Apex Legends as well.
