Apple M1X Specs Sheet Leaked Online, Reveals Promising Features

Apple M1X

Specification of Apple M1X processors have leaked online. The M1X processors are rumored to be powering the upcoming new MacBook Pro models which are scheduled to release in the second quarter of 2021. The new processor is rumored to be called the M1X and it will be a major step up from the M1 CPU which powers Apple’s current lineup of MacBooks.

The specifications surfaced on CPU Monkey and according to fresh specifications shared by them, the M1X is expected to be a beast of an SoC. According to the leak, the M1X will feature a 12-core CPU. The table shows that the 12-core part will be divided into eight Firestorm performance cores and four Icestorm power-efficiency ones.

The clock speed for the performance cores is listed to be 3.20 GHz, and the speeds for the power-efficient cores are not known currently. Coming to M1X’s GPU specifications, the  M1X will feature 16 cores and 256 execution units.

If all these specifications are correct, then the M1X will have twice as many performance cores as the M1, twice the number of GPU cores, and twice the number of execution units. It is also rumored that with the M1X, users will be able to connect up to three external monitors.

With the increase in the number of cores, however, the TDP has also increased. The table shows that to obtain this level of performance, the TDP could operate at 35W, and depending on the workload, that value could go up to 45W if required. The RAM has also been bumped up to 32 GB which is good news for creators.

Apple will have to provide a beefy cooling solution to cool down this TDP and beefier coolers have been rumored for the 14.1-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models. the higher wattage of the M1X means users might not experience the same battery endurance as that witnessed on the M1 MacBook Pro and M1 MacBook Air.

All these specs are from the pre-sample unit and may change in the final version when the MacBooks drop in the second quarter of this year.
