Apple held its ‘Hi, Speed’ event in which they revealed many new devices including new phones part of its iPhone 12 lineup, as well as a new HomePod mini. In the event, Apple also revealed a new MagSafe accessory for the new iPhones which include new wireless chargers and cases for the iPhone.
The first item Apple revealed in their ‘Hi, Speed’ event was the HomePod mini which is a sized-down version of the original HomePod. Like the full-size HomePod, the HomePod mini features a mesh fabric exterior in both black and white colors, along with a small display on top to show the Siri waveform and volume controls.
The new HomePod mini also features an Apple S5 chip which allows computational audio which can process music sounds 180 times per second. The new Apple HomePod mini features the “Intercom” feature which will allow customers with multiple HomePod devices in different rooms to communicate throughout the house. Intercom messages will also appear on connected iPhones, iPads, and Apple Watches. The HomePod mini will be available to purchase for 99 USD.
Apple then announced the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini which feature the new A14 Bionic Chipset, Super Retina XDR Display, and stronger Ceramic Shield. The smaller iPhone 12 mini has a 5.4-inch Super Retina XDR display while the iPhone 12 ups it to 6.1 inches. Both models feature a 2340 x 1080 resolution supporting 1200 nits of peak brightness and are HDR10 compliant.
Both the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 have similar hardware specifications and feature the A14 Bionic chip, Apple’s first 5nm chipset. Both iPhones have 5G models and haptic touch support. The camera on these two has also received an upgrade. The primary 12MP sensor can take in 27% more light while the ultrawide lens features a 16MP resolution.
Night mode on both iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini have improved thanks to the quicker F/1.6 aperture on the main unit, and the feature is also available on the ultrawide sensor. There’s no 8K video recording support here, so both devices will stick to a 4K 60FPS. The Smart Data Mode allows the iPhone 12 to switch to LTE when 5G is not needed and switches back to 5G speeds when the high speeds are needed. iPhone 12 supports mmWave 5G in the United States.
Coming to the pricing, the iPhone 12 will start from $799 while the iPhone 12 mini is slightly cheaper at $699. Both iPhone 12 and 12 mini will be available in black, white, PRODUCT RED, green, and blue colors. As far as availability is concerned, you will be able to pre-order iPhone 12 starting October 16 and it will be officially available to purchase on October 23. The iPhone 12 mini pre-orders start November 6, with shipping starting on November 13.
The highlight devices of the launch event were the iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max. The iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max feature a durable surgical grade stainless steel chassis with precision-cut glass. The Pro models have a 6.1″ screen on the 12 Pro and the 12 Pro Max has a 6.7″ display. Both displays can reach 1200 nit peak brightness.
The iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max also feature the new A14 Bionic chip. The Pro models also have an upgraded camera system featuring a 12MP ultra-wide camera to along with the 12MP telephoto camera. The iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max also have Apple ProRAW and, in this mode, all the information of the picture is which can later be edited within the photo app or 3rd party photo editing apps.
Additionally, the iPhone 12 Pro series is also going to bring the LiDAR sensor that was introduced in the iPad Pro as well. All these specifications make the iPhone 12 Pro series one of the most powerful smartphones as far as the AR applications are concerned.
The iPhone 12 Pro will start at $999 and will be available in Pacific Blue, Gold, Graphite, and Silver and the iPhone 12 Pro Max is going to start at $1099 and is going to be available in Pacific Blue, Gold, Graphite, and Silver colors. Preorders for the Pro series start from 16th October.
