Bethesda has announced that it is giving out Arkane Studios’ first game ever, Arx Fatalis for free this weekend. The offer is live right now and you can claim a free copy before May 31 for your PC.
The announcement comes in celebration of the 20th anniversary of Arkane Studios, and all you have to do to claim it is to join the new Arkane Outsiders fan community by signing up and downloading the digital copy of the game through the Bethesda launcher. In addition to the digital copy, players will also be getting the Art of Arkane digital artbook when you join the community.
Arx Fatalis was the first game by Arkane Studio and was originally launched for PC 18 years ago in 2002. While Arx Fatalis is not the most popular game to be made by Arkane Studios, like Prey and Dishonored, it is still pretty decent game. One year after the PC launch, Arx Fatalis made a console appearance in 2003 for the original Xbox console.
Arx Fatalis is set on a world that has suffered a solar catastrophe; in short, the sun seems to have gone out. As a result, the many races of this world have headed underground, building vast, sprawling cities in seemingly endless caverns below the planet’s crust. The player’s character awakens in prison, without a shred of memory – not even a name – and must find a way to escape, to survive, and eventually to oppose a nefarious force bent on destroying this already fragile civilization…and in the process, discover his own destiny
The game is played from a first-person view and is set in a slowly dying world that has lost its sun, forcing the inhabitants to take refuge and survive in underground caverns. The game gives the players some freedom in building up the character with skill points, upgrading armor weapons, and more.
Player choices play a big role in the story of Arx Fatalis, with having no dialogue, your actions will lead to different consequences and different quests to progress into the story.
