Bush Hockey League developer V7 Entertainment has announced that the studio is shutting down for good. While the studio did not share why their studio is shutting down, the developer did share a long, heartfelt message thanking everyone who played their title Bush Hockey League. The release of Bush Hockey League on Nintendo Switch was their last release and now the studio is officially hanging their gloves.
In the official press release, V7 Entertainment shared a long, detailed message detailing the studio’s journey and its different releases. We have attached it below for you.
After successfully releasing Bush Hockey League on the Switch last month, we’re here to bid a fond farewell. As a small indie team, it took tremendous effort to release a title like BHL across all the major platforms (Switch, Xbox, PlayStation, & Steam) with our own in-house engine and tools, but we’re ready to shake hands and head back to the locker room.
We want to thank those who stuck with us for the journey, we couldn’t have done it without you! We love our community. Your cheers lift us, and your jeers we hear and gratefully take that advice with us. This experience has been like being at the rink and hearing the crowd roar. Keep it all coming! On that note, you can still expect the odd patch here and there for the Switch version of the game, just to make sure we’re squashing any bugs you all end up finding.
We can’t say enough to thank you because we think we have the most hardcore fans of hockey games on earth! Hockey’s special to us and BHL is our love letter to the game and a very unique moment in its history. The development has been a long and wild rollercoaster that we’ve never regretted getting on. Parts of this ride included being in a garage thinking up a hockey fighting game concept, becoming a licensed IP for a time, uploading builds from coffee shops, getting bullied by large organizations, and stickhandling our way out of too many tight situations to mention here. We wish we could have delivered on our attempts to bring things like online play, additional DLC teams, one-timers, and many other asks that were left on the cutting room floor, but we’re proud of the game that made it into stores.
The golden days of hockey truly sparked an inspiration for us with BHL. The grit, grind, and over-the-top moments of yesteryear were what we saw could make a great video game. We soaked ourselves into hockey’s historical beginnings, devoured films like the Broad Street Bullies & Slap Shot, and binged classic games like Ice Hockey (NES), NHL 94, Hit the Ice, and Blades of Steel.
All in all, it’s been a great journey. We’ve made some life-long friendships and the knowledge, experiences, and lessons we’ve learned have been invaluable. But every story has to come to an end and it’s time to hang up our sweaters.
Bush Hockey League for the Switch is our finale for this title, a promise we desperately wanted to fulfill, and our last love letter to the amazing world of old time hockey. We hope you enjoy it.
Keep your head up and keep playing!
