Treyarch has officially revealed the next Call of Duty title and this around, we are getting a new Black Ops title. The new title is called Call of Duty: Black Ops: Cold War and we have our first official teaser of the as well. The first teaser trailer for Black Ops: Cold War has been made entirely from newsreels and real historical footage that also gives us the general idea about the background for the game.
The trailer has a strong Cold War feel and introduces players to a Soviet spy codenamed Perseus. The trailer further details that Perseus was never caught and managed to infiltrate deep into some of the most secretive U.S. defense institutions on the behalf of the USSR. It further shows a TV interview where the Soviet Union was working the undermine the US. The highlight of this interview is KGB defector Yuri Bezmenov who is sharing additional details.
Yuri Bezmenov used to work with the USSR as a journalist but after his defection, he became a prominent anti-communist author and speaker in the western countries. He details that USSR had a careful, decades-long plan to infiltrate and destabilize America. Some of his official words in the teaser are:
It’s a slow process which we called active measures. What will happen in the United States if you allow all the schmucks to put a Big Brother government in Washington D.C. who will promise loads of things, no matter whether the promises were fulfilled or not. The time bomb is ticking. With every second the disaster is coming closer and closer. The danger is real.
It seems like the Black Ops: Cold War will be set during the Cold War era when the USSR was a major threat and was on the brink of expanding into other continents. The trailer also shows different footage from the Vietnam War, government meetings, Ronald Reagan speeches, and civil rights protests. The trailer also states that the game has been inspired by real-life events.
Additional details will be shared by Treyarch in the coming days as we’ve only seen the teaser trailer at this point. The full reveal is slated for August 26, 2020.
