Call of Duty: Warzone, A Free Battle Royale for Modern Warfare, Drops Today

Call of Duty: Warzone

Battle Royale is one of the most common and fan-liked mode in today’s shooters. Keeping this in view, the latest Call of Duty release Modern Warfare is getting a free-to-play battle royale mode title as well. However, Call of Duty: Warzone is not just a mode. It is a stand-alone title and it is included in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare if you have already purchased the full game. If not, you can download the free-to-play Warzone battle royale title for free on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

Call of Duty: Warzone is not a traditional battle royale game because it comes with its own two battle royale modes. One is called Battle Royale and the other one is called Plunder. Battle Royale is simply an updated version of Call of Duty: Black Ops IV’s Blackout mode with added features and mechanics. Battle Royale mode now supports 150 players and follows the same routine of Solo, Duos, and Trios gameplay. This time around, there is a new twist on how the game treats when you are down.

On your first death, you are taken to a new place called The Gulag where you must defeat another downed player for a chance to return to the main game. If you fail, you die but if you manage to defeat the other player, you come back resurrected in the main game ready to battle for the number one spot again. Apart from weapons and gear, you will also collect cash in the Battle Royale mode which is used at the ‘Buy Stations’ for items like Killstreaks, Redeploy Tokens and Self-Revival Kits.

The second game mode is Plunder which is solely based around gathering as much cash in the game as possible. You have different ways of earning cash in Plunder such as looting, completing objectives and even looting other players after you eliminate them. The objectives in Plunder are called Contracts and you have different types of contracts to complete in the game mode and earn cash. Both modes feature the same map which has over 300 POIs.

You will also have different vehicles at your disposal to explore the map of Warzone. Some of the returning vehicles from Blackout include the quad bike, SUV and the light helicopter. Depending on your squad size, you can find a vehicle and drive it around for gaining a competitive advantage (or disadvantage) over other players. Each vehicle comes with its own strengths and weaknesses so you will need to bargain one thing for another.

PS4 players would be glad to know that similar to the original title, they are also getting special treatment for Warzone. All players who will begin their battle royale journey in Warzone on PS4 and are active PS Plus members will get a free ‘Call of Duty: Warzone Combat Pack’ from PSN. Further details about the pack will be revealed later when the title is released later today. However, it is safe to say that PC and Xbox One players will be missing out on this exclusive PSN content in Warzone.

Call of Duty: Warzone is releasing today across PC, PS4 and Xbox One around noon so you can jump in the game directly if you own Call of Duty: Modern Warfare or download the game for free from your platform’s online store.
