1C Entertainment and Digitalmindsoft have announced that the standalone expansion Cold War for the long-running Men of War RTS series is arriving next month. Men of War: Assault Squad 2 – Cold War will hit Steam next month and will take players all the way back to the era of the Cold War. This is the first time for the franchise to go back to this iconic era.
The expansion will bring with all the tense, military tactic that players are used to with the Men of War franchise and combine them with the backdrop of the heated conflict between the USA and the Soviet Union. The expansion brings with it a brand new feature to the series which is called Dynamic Campaign Creation. This brand new mechanic will ensure that every campaign run is different than the last one with randomized battles to custom army compositions.
With this new mechanic in place, players can expect something new every time they are playing the main campaign which will ensure that the missions do not become repetitive and will offer something new every time the player jumps in the game. The campaign will support both solo and co-op and the new mechanic will also support both modes.

Men of War: Assault Squad 2 – Cold War will feature the same iconic RTS combat the game is famous for. This time around, players will get access to both US and Soviet armies comprising of soldiers, tanks, helicopters, long-range artillery, and more units as they battle the opposition in some of the most iconic locations of the Cold War era. The landscapes will change from sleepy winter villages to fortified border zones.
The game also brings the Direct Control mode back giving players unprecedented control over their forces and allowing them to control a single unit at the same time to devise deeper strategies as they battle their foes. The expansion will also support online and LAN multiplayer giving players more reasons to jump back in the game. According to the official press release, key features include:
- Pick your side: The United States of America versus the Soviet Union
- Dynamic campaign creation makes singleplayer and cooperative campaign play extremely replayable with randomized skirmish battles and custom army compositions
- Competitive multiplayer in online and LAN mode
- Combined arms game mode: Capture and hold flag points using all military means possible
- Annihilation game mode: Dominate the enemy or capture their base, as valuable resources can be secured on the battlefield
- Command large armies or control single units with the series-defining direct control mode
Men of War: Assault Squad 2 – Cold War will arrive on Steam on September 12, 2019.
