Indie developer Flyway Games has announced a Steam Next Fest demo for its deckbuilding RTS Commander Quest. During Steam Next Fest, from October 14 to October 21, the game will feature a fully playable 10-hour demo, giving you the chance to experience its unique combination of deck-building and real-time strategy combat. This demo will allow participants to step into the roles of legendary commanders and lead armies to victory in a brutal, yet captivating, medieval fantasy landscape.
Commander Quest places you in the shoes of historical figures like Zhuge Liang, Saladin, and Richard Daneaxe, as they guide their forces across fantastical battlegrounds. With a mix of roguelike mechanics and deck-building strategy, you must plan their tactics in advance by selecting and deploying cards, watching as combat unfolds in real-time. Decisions made before and during battles shape each campaign, requiring strategic thinking and a keen eye for synergy among the available cards.

As you progress through the game, you will have the chance to evolve your legions by earning new soldier cards, improving supplies, and refining their combat tactics. Every run is procedurally generated, ensuring no two campaigns are the same, and offering a fresh challenge each time. The demo provides a deep dive into this ever-changing world, featuring a mix of races such as dwarves, elves, orcs, and fearsome enemies like giant spiders and dragons.
In addition to the main gameplay, Commander Quest offers a robust progression system. After completing a run, you can unlock new cards, relics, and skills by gaining experience points, allowing them to level up both their commanders and races. This creates a satisfying loop of trial, growth, and reward, making each playthrough feel meaningful. The demo promises around 10 hours of content, showcasing what you can expect from the full release.
If you cannot wait until October 14 for the Steam Next Fest to begin, you can jump into the free demo for Commander Quest right now. The demo will continue to be available throughout the Steam Next Fest from October 14 to 21, 2024 as well. If you like it, consider adding it to your Steam wishlist so that you can stay updated on all future developments about it. A release date will be announced at a later stage.
