This guide will detail the different types of speed boosts the game gives you and how you can effectively use them to set the best time in Time Trials.

How to Get Boost

The game offers three different basic boosts at the start of a race. The first is the Start Boost that is given at the starting of a race. All you have to do is make sure that you press the X button before the start to give you a starting boost. The boost activates when you press it just before the green light.

During the lap or race, you will also be rewarded with short bursts of Jump Boost. Whenever you perform a jump you are granted boost while landing. The longer you stay in the air, the more boost you get. Practice getting jumps that give you more air, as this will extend your boost time.

The tracks also offer Turbo Pads, which are green arrowed specialized tracks that boost you forward. Ride over these Turbo Pads to get a short burst of speed.

Another way you can get a boost in the game is by performing drifts. This will reward you with Slide Boost. Slid Boost is a manual way of achieving boost anywhere in the game. When you perform a drift, either press L1 or R1, depending on which direction you are going to drift in. When the boost bar fills up, you need to press the other button of the two so you can continue the drift boost.

Slide Boost is a big factor in helping you beat Time Trials. You need to pair drifts in a single move as this will give you the longest boost. To do this, you first need to get into a drift and then switch the direction when you see the boost meter turning red or overheating. You can switch three times in total, giving you a decent duration of boost.

Boost Reserve

There is a hidden boost feature in the game which is boost reserve. The more you perform the three drift boosts, the more it accumulates in the reserve. When you perform multiple boosts in a short period of time, you can fill up your reserve pretty quickly. Reserve boost comes in very handy as it promises longer durations of a boost in a lap.

Fire/Sacred Fire and Ultimate Sacred Fire

There are two other boost systems that give you a huge speed boost. The first is the Fire/Sacred Fire system that can be seen as a fire coming out of your exhaust. During this period, going over any Turbo Pad will give you more speed. When you have Sacred Fire activated, you should focus on chaining more boosts to prolong the speed bonus.

The second is the Ultimate Sacred Fire. This can be seen as white or blue fire coming from your exhaust. It is also the fastest boost in the game, and keeping it active for a long time can help you massively to beat Oxide’s time. It also works the same as Sacred Fire, where you can keep it active by chaining other boosts. The only difference is that it gives you a lot more speed. Ultimate Sacred Fire is selective on some stages as it will not be available in all tracks of the game.
