Dark Souls Games have Sold more than 27 Million Copies Worldwide

According to publisher Bandai Namco, FromSoftware’s Dark Souls games have sold over 27 million copies worldwide. The third title in the series, Dark Souls III sold 10 million copies alone all around the world.

FromSoftware confirmed the news on Twitter, while also expressing their tanks the community and the people who are looking forward to their upcoming title Elden Ring.

The DARK SOULS series has sold over 27 million units to date. We are incredibly grateful to every single one of our players. This success is owed to you. We hope you continue to enjoy our games, and look forward to Elden Ring, the new Action RPG that’s currently in development.

This comes as no surprise as the Dark Souls series is the most popular franchise by the developer, along with other titles that became instant hits. Other titles include Bloodborne, and the recently released Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. FromSoftware is known for making tough games with daunting boss fights that can easily wash away any overconfident newbie when they face the bosses.

The press release by Bandai Namco also elaborated that the third title in the series, Dar Souls III includes the base game and the Dark Souls III: The Fire Fades Edition in the 10+ million copies sold.

The DARK SOULS series has cumulatively surpassed 27 million in sales, and has proven its deep-rooted popularity as an IP with the sales of various themed merchandise and goods, from action figures to apparel, and more.

The latest successor to the action RPG DARK SOULS series, DARK SOULS III first made its debut in March 2016 for Japan and in April 2016 for all other regions around the world. The game received high praise from players worldwide with its unique and immersive dark fantasy setting, intense and gratifying challenges, and innovative passive online system, among others. The timed worldwide release of DARK SOULS III, along with its support of 13 languages, brought players from around the world together to enjoy the game.

The press release goes on to say that Dark Souls III is still active and strong due to the support of the many player communities established for the game, thus leading to the sales crossing 10 million and still growing.
