New DayZ Update 1.17 Out Now, Brings New Weapons, Craftable Items, and Quality of life Improvements

DayZ Update 1.17

Bohemia Interactive has just released the DayZ Update 1.17 which sees the addition of new weapons, craftable items, and many changes to the game. The popular zombie survival game received its update on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation just a few hours ago today.

The update brings an expanded selection of civilian firearms and a handful of changes to some features, all of which bring a new and improved gameplay experience.

Watch the teaser video of the new update below:

Starting off with new weapons and non-craftable items, the civilian firearms namely the CR-550 Savanna, the .308 Longhorn pistol, and the legendary P1 9mm pistol. The weapons are nothing that will have players wanting to main but add into the variety of weapons that DayZ has to offer.

Melee weapons like the Meat Tenderizer, cleaver, and pitchfork have also been added. And in case you are wondering about the broom, it can now be lit up on fire, making it a pretty useful weapon against players and zombies. The lit-up broom will burn for enough time for you to take on zombies or players, and is surprisingly powerful enough to take down both pretty fast, thanks to its increased damage output.

Gas Masks Filters can now be crafted as Improvised Gas Mask Filters using Charcoal Tablets. This is another useful item that many players will appreciate, especially considering when they need to enter toxic gas zones. Beware though, the Improvised Gas Filters run out 33% faster than the regular filters, but you can craft more if you have plenty of charcoal tablets.

Cookware like cooking pots and frying pans will take damage with extended use. These items were pretty much immune to damage caused by extended use but now will have their durability affected as you use more items on fire.

Moving on to heat sources, players can now get the heat buff by being near a heat source besides the regular fire. Heat given out from cooking pots, torches, vehicles, and generators can all be used to gain a heat buff, though not as quick as a direct fire source.

Update 1.17 of DayZ is live right now on Steam, where you can directly download the update to play and check out all the changes added to the game. Post your comments below.
