Demon's Souls Beginners Guide

In this Demon’s Souls Beginner’s Guide we will share some starting tips and tricks that will help you begin your journey in the new remake of Demon’s Souls. Demon’s Souls Remake is finally available on PS5 now and it brings back a game that made FromSoftware known to the world back in the days of PS3. Demon’s Souls is also considered the hardest title in the franchise and luckily, it brings all the challenges and brutal boss fights to the modern remake as well. This guide will help you in your starting hours of the game.

Beginner’s Guide – Demon’s Souls

Our Demon’s Souls Beginner’s Guide details some tips and tricks for you if you are just starting with Demon’s Souls Remake on PS5.

Choose Your Class Wisely

Choosing your class is critical in Demon’s Souls because every class gives you a particular set of stats from the start. Building your character stats will help you shape your gameplay style including the weapons and armor sets that you will be able to use right from the start of the game. Each weapon, armor piece and sorcery in Demon’s Souls comes with a stat requirement which if not met, you cannot equip the weapon. For example, a heavy weapon will require more strength so you will need to build on Strength for your character. For this very reason, it is especially important that you pick a class at the start of the game that suits your gameplay style.

If you are a franchise veteran, you can pick any class that you like in the game however if you are just starting with the franchise, the Royalty Class is the best option for you. This particular class is blessed with a catalyst and knows dark arts and spells. It is also more focused on ranged attacks which makes it really good for fighting the enemies from a distance and gives a much-needed space to newcomers. Furthermore, if you prefer heavy tank builds, you can go for the Knight class and if you prefer self-healing and magical combat, you can go for Priest or Temple Knight classes.

Understanding Death and Body Forms

There are two different body forms in the game. One is your human form and if you die, you will revert back to your soul form which is the default form for a character in the game. During your human-form, you will have your full health however in your soul form, you will only have half of your health. You can revert back to your human form if you use a Stone of Ephemeral Eyes or simply by beating one of the major demons in the game.

Dying also means that all your souls are left on the spot where you died last time. You have only one shot at coming back to this exact spot to get your souls back and it you die on your way here, you will lose all of the souls that you lost. If you only lost a small number of souls, you should not be too worried for them but if you lose a lot of souls, then must try to go back carefully to get your hard-earned souls. Also, sometimes simply running is better to the spot unless some big enemy blocks the way and you must fight them to open up the path.

Explore Every Nook and Cranny to Find Items and Open Shortcuts

The levels in the game might look like a linear path but there are a lot of hidden spaces here and there and secrets for you to find. Two of the most desired things in the game are hidden away in these nooks and crannies. These include items and shortcuts. If you’ve played any Fromsoftware title before, you will know the importance of these items and shortcuts. The shortcuts allow you to open up paths back to the Archstone Portal which greatly shortens you traveling distance to a lot of difficult and advances areas of the game. However, be aware that sometimes enemies and traps are also present in these areas so never blindly run into every nook and cranny that you see in the game.

Organize your Inventory Load

In Demon’s Souls, heavier items will make you slower when you equip them. So you inventory load is not just the only weight you should be worried about. While your inventory has a limit, carrying too many items over this limit will make you extremely slow and your attacks and dodge will be slowed down massively. This is however not much of a problem because you can send any item from your inventory to your storage box straight from your inventory. This feature is extremely helpful so you should take full advantage of it.

Now coming back to the item load, every item that you equip in the game has a major impact on your performance. This impact is actually based on your stats. If your endurance and strength is high, you will not feel much difference in your attacks and rolls even if the heaviest weapon or amor is equipped. You can also change to much lighter gear if your build revolves around mobility and hit-and-run combat. The item load must be according to your desired build. If you are pushing for a tank build, you can simply skip being worried about mobility right from the start.

Do Not Rush Your Gameplay

Demon’s Souls is a game that requires patience. It is not your traditional hack-n-slash where you would just jump in the fights and slash your way out of them. Even if you have levelled up a lot in the game, you are still vulnerable to enemy attacks and even a lowly enemy can easily send you to the soul realm from the human realm. For this very reason, you should take your time with the game. Always look around corners and watch out for traps in areas that otherwise look harmless. Some of the enemies are hidden in the game and they can easily attack you and kill you if you are not careful in the game.
