How to Defeat
Vanguard is an easy boss to defeat in comparison to the other main bosses in the game. As a tutorial boss, you can easily understand the bosses moves, and plan out your own counter-attacks.
The Vanguard boss has three types of main attacks where most of them leave it vulnerable for a small period. The most basic attack it produces is the horizontal swing with its axe. This slashing attack can go from left to right or right to left depending on your position.
Each time the Vanguard swings at you dodge in the opposite direction away from the direction of its swing. This will have you perfectly positioned for a counter attack as you will be placed at the Vanguard’s sides. This counter attack needs to be timed well at the right moment when you see the boss about to hit. It is best to practice a bit and get your timing right.
The second attack is the overhead swing where the Vanguard hits straight ahead. This attack will end with the boss’ axe being stuck on the ground. If you dodge and get close enough, you will have a small period of counter-attack with a few hits of your own. The final attack is where it slams on the ground with an area of effect damage. Your best bet here is to dodge away and look for other ways to get close to it.
