One way or the other ever since video games came into the play they’ve always been somehow caught up in controversy, be it a really big issue, a claim that makes sense or just some dumb blame but yes there’s always been word around it. In recent times where the political climate and change and how tragic terrorist activities of mass shootings have happened in America things have shaken up a lot as President Trump has blamed Violent video games for such tragic happenings. So do video games really incite violence? Let’s talk.
Video Games and Violence
From the beginning till this very day there hasn’t been any proper research report that confirms that videogames make people violent, yeah it can cause aggression but that’s something a whole bunch of other things can cause too but are those blamed as well? Not really.
If we’re talking facts than let me lay it out in simple words that video games are bought, showcased and played in many countries of the world but most of the mass shootings are mostly taking place in America why is that so? Yeah, try to wrap your head around it.
Violence is what we all see
Living in this world one way or the other you do get to see acts of violence and that’s not just by playing games, it can always be a show, movie or even in a news report so it’s all out there. Via violent lyrics, it can go through your ears as music too.
Hell! Even many of the people end up seeing it all in front of them in real life too so the world of ours it brings out the violence in some form and your eyes cant avoid it. It is eyed by billions of people yet they’re very sane and mentally healthy. It’s not that any of it causes them to snap.
Stop Glorifying Violence in Entertainment
We hear this from many people especially from politicians and a bunch of critics too that stop glorifying violence in entertainment forms or that it’s not art. Violence of video games is a whole other thing than what you do in real life and no game has the power to motivate you/push you for doing such acts that are recreating violence in real life.
Yes, there might be many strong moments in the games we play but again it’s all done by fictional people that are there only till games running and your TV screen is on. It no power nor any affect over the player and there’s weight to it too because of a detailed report.
Dr. Christopher Ferguson took frustration tests of kids of playing violent video games in the final results the kids who played violent games had fewer hostile feelings in the frustration test and not only this they also had less depression.
Public Figures and Video Games
Let’s talk about how these public figures jump to conclusions that games inspired the mass shooters. Digging is done and the moment they find the slightest involvement of games the lock their statements and roll the blame. How can they be so sure it was the only thing?
Does reading a sad novel give you depression? Does watching a heist themed movie makes me wanna rob a bank? And the list goes on but wait there’s more. The shooters also drank water are they going to ban that as well? It just doesn’t work like this.
Doing such barbaric act has some other reasons behind it which are not acceptable by any means and fiction surely isn’t one of them. Video games definitely aren’t one of them like come on! Call of duty has sold millions of copies, no Russian has been played by an infinite amount of people and none of them ended up shooting an airport.
Over a few cases, you can’t blame the entire thing. Video games are an amazing mean of therapy, entertainment, and relaxation and will always be one of the greatest forms of entertainment.
Peace and cheers my friends!
