Dragon Ball Z Kakarot Substory Guide – How to Complete

This Dragon Ball Z Kakarot Substory Guide will detail all of the substories that the game has. Substories are side quests that you will find all throughout the open world of the game. It is given to you by the various NPCs you meet.

Each Saga of the game contains multiple substories that you can find. Completing them rewards you with the invaluable Soul Emblems amongst other reward items. Dragon Ball Z Kakarot Substory Guide

Below you will find all the substories and how to complete them.

Saiyan Saga

There are 6 substories in this saga:

Substory #1 – Master Roshi’s Prized Possession

This Substory requires you to find Master Roshi’s magazine that the turtle has hidden. The first thing you need to do is talk to Bulma, and then head over to talk to the turtle. This will reveal the location of the magazine which will be behind the Kame House. Dig the location and bring the magazine back to Master Roshi to complete the side quest.

Substory #2 – Nam the Peddlar

This Substory is where Nam will require your help in his cart business. The quest begins when you talk to Nam. Your next task is to talk to the man marked in blue. At this point, you will get a fossil that you have to take to the fossil area and then talk to the man wearing a hat. Give him the fossil, and you will get some food and water that needs to be delivered back to Nam. Completing this Substory will get you the Nam Soul Emblem.

Substory #3 – Foggy Future

This Substory is available after you play as Gohan and he learns to fly. The side quest requires you to talk to Baba the fortune teller and help him out.

Substory #4 – Gentle Giant

The quest can be found in the East Ravine map where you will need to find and talk to Eighter to begin the quest. Eighter wants your help in defeating the Red Ribbon robots that are in the area nearby. Clearing the area by beating all the robots will complete this quest.

Substory #5 – The Fifth Trainee

This Substory is available when you play as Piccolo in this saga. To start the quest, you need to talk to Yajirobe and then catch deer for him. Once you return to the man, you will find out that he has run off and is avoiding fighting Piccolo. To locate him, you need to use your Ki vision which will reveal his location in the blue cave. Talk to Yajoribe and you will complete the quest.

Substory#6 – Telekinesis Training

This quest is available after you defeat Tien. The quest requires you to defeat Tien again but this time with Chiaotzu in the mix as well. You just need to beat both to finish the quest.

Intermission I

There are 4 substories in this part of the game.

Substory #1 – The Pilaf Gangs Plan

This side quest is available when you are playing as Gohan during this part of the game. It becomes available after you meet and talk to Roshi. Your task here is to beat robots with the help of Pilaf.

Substory #2 – Foreboding Fear

This quest begins when you talk to Bulma and agree to help her. She will want you to go to the area where you earlier fought Raditz, and find her a chip. Once you reach the location, you will have to fight some enemies along with some robots. Once you beat them, pick up the chip marked in blue. Collect it and bring it back to Bulma to complete this quest.

Substory #3 – Mysterious Power Reading

This quest is given to you by Bulma who now wants you to investigate a high power reading. It is in the same place you earlier fought Raditz. Go to the location and fight some enemies there. Defeating them will end the quest and reward you with a high-quality vegetable.

Substory #4 – Familiar Face

This quest is given to you by Mercenary Tao. Your task here is to go to the marked location to defeat enemies and finish the quest.

Frieza Saga

This part of the game contains 8 substories.

Substory #1 – Like a Different Person

This quest begins when you head outside of your house and talk to the Ox King. Go back to the house and talk to Chi Chi before returning back to the Ox King. The quest requires you to gather some cooking items that include two pieces of beast meat and four carrots. You can skip the scavenging part of locating these items and just buy them from the shop. Once you are done, talk to Ox King to complete the quest.

Substory #2 – Wild Imagination

This side quest is given to you by Krillin after you talk to him. He will want you to take part in mental training where you have to beat Nappa and Krillin. Once you beat both the characters, the quest will be completed.

Substory #3 – Tough Break for Turtle

This quest is given to you by the turtle found inside Kame House. He requires you to gather some ingredients that include a Royal tomato, 6 eggs, and 7 rice. The Royal Tomato is the toughest item to get in this quest where you first need to talk to the man on the marked location, and then collect 10 Energetic Fishes for a Royal Tomato.

We have detailed how to get the fishes in our Energetic Fish Guide. Once you have the fishes, return to the man, get the Royal Tomato and the rest of the ingredients and give them to the turtle in Kame House. This will complete the quest.

Substory #4 – Yamcha is Alive

This Substory begins when you talk to Oolong. The quest requires you to investigate and follow the ghost of Yamcha. You will notice that Yamcha will be talking to some ladies. After following him, you will have to fight some robots that will be threatening Yamcha. At the end of the quest, you will find out that Yamcha is Puar in disguise.

Substory #5 – Victimized Namekian

The quest begins when you talk to Namekian Child. Your task is to first defeat the enemies that are troubling the child, and then find four Namekian fruits. Give the fruits to the child and then talk to Bulma to complete the quest.

Substory #6 – Selfish Bulma

This quest is only available after you have collected 6 Dragon Balls playing as Vegeta. Go talk to Bulma to get the quest where she will want you to find some materials. The materials are 2 Alien Whitefish Fin Muscle and 3 Iron Ore. To get the fish, you need to go to the fishing are southwest from where Bulma is. To get Iron Ore, you can look for the locations on the map.

Substory #7 – Tourists in Trouble

This Substory begins right in the middle of the previous Substory where you are gathering materials for Bulma. You will find two tourists that will need you to find a Maristone. You can get these stones by following the area marked on the map, and then destroying the boulders blocking the entrance to the caves containing the stones. Use your Ki Blasts to destroy the boulders.

Substory #8 – Rogue Chef Malone

This Substory requires you to talk to Frieza Force Soldier with the red hair. You will initially have to fight and defeat him, and then he will ask you to get him three fruits. Use your Kai Sense to find the fruits and then give them to the soldier to complete the quest.

Intermission II

This part of the game contains 9 substories.

Substory #1 – Attacked Villager

This quest requires you to help a woman that is being attacked by enemies. You will find her near the river close to Goku’s house. Your task is to defeat the enemies and rescue the woman from them.

Substory #2 – The Mystery of the Missing Tail

This quest begins when you talk to Oolong and then talk to Kami. You then have to go to Vegeta and defeat him. Once you have beaten Vegeta, return to Oolong to conclude the Substory.

Substory #3 – One Cool Dude

This Substory requires you to fight some robots and begins when you first talk to Puar and then go to talk to Yamcha. Help Yamcha in taking out the robots to complete the quest.

Substory #4 – Yamcha: the Man, the Myth, the Legend

This Substory requires you to fight Yamcha and defeat him by playing as Gohan.

Substory #5 – The Pride of the Warrior

This Substory requires you to fight Raditz and defeat him by playing as Piccolo.

Substory #6 – Saiyan Power

This Substory requires you to fight Nappa and defeat him and the enemies by playing as Gohan.

Substory #7 – Power is Justice

This Substory requires you to fight against Dodoria and win the fight. You can play as any character in your party to defeat Dodoria.

Substory #8 – Power is Beauty

This Substory requires you to fight against Zarbon and defeat him. You will have to face him twice to complete the quest.

Substory #9 – Ginyu Force Tryouts

This Substory starts when you start to bring out the Ginyu Force for a battle again. This can be done with the Dragon Balls. Defeat the gang to finish this quest.

Android Saga

This part of the game contains 7 substories.

Substory #1 – Bummed About Bananas

To complete this quest, you have to go talk to Bubbles. The quest requires you to collect Cosmic Bananas, which you can get from Blake Bog. Go to this location and pick up all the Cosmic Bananas in the area. Once you give the items to Bubbles, the quest is complete.

Substory #2 – Easy-Going Genius

This quest begins when you talk to Doctor Briefs, who requires you to collect a Skull Robo Gear, a piece of Densite and three Silver Ore. You can get Silver Ore by locating it from the map, while the Skull Robo Gear is west from the location guarded by robots. The Densite will be in the large landmass in this location. Bring all the materials back to Doctor Briefs to end the quest.

Substory #3 – A Competitive Party with Friends

This Substory requires you to talk to Yamcha and then follow go to his house for a party that he invites you to. His house will be in Lucca Village and the party location will be marked in blue. Here you have to fight against Vegeta and defeat him to complete the quest.

Substory #4 – The Meaning of Training

This quest starts when you talk to Tien. Defeat him in a match to end the quest.

Substory #5 – Yajirobe and Korin

This quest is a fishing challenge or competition that you participate in with Yajirobe. In the challenge, you have to catch 1 Scarlet Catfish and 2 Goliath Catfishes. Next, you have to fish in the pond that is next to Yajirobe and catch the fish with the largest fin. Once you have the fishes, return to Yajirobe to end the quest.

Substory #6 – Your Friend is My Friend

Talk to Eighter to begin this quest. Your task here is to beat the robots in the area. Once you clear out the robots, the quest will be completed.

Substory #7 – Close Encounters of the Troublesome Kind

This quest begins when you talk to the tourist couple that you found in Planet Namek. Your task is to beat a dinosaur in Gizard Wasteland. After that, you have to beat a Frieza Soldier to finish the quest.

Cell Saga

This part of the game contains 7 substories.

Substory #1 – Friends Forever

This quest when you talk to Eighter and he feeling unwell. You then have to go to Doctor Briefs who will send you to Darlinge Polynya. Head to Gero’s Hideout to beat some robots near this location. Once you are done, you have to locate purple orbs with your Ki Vision.

Substory #2 – Between Worlds

This quest begins when you talk to the Fortune Teller Baba. You will find that she will give you three fights with Frieza Goons. Once you defeat them, head back to Baba to end the quest.

Substory #3 – Not Too Quick on the Uptake

For this Substory, Pilaf wants you to find him a capsule. To find it, you need to fly up and then use your Ki Vision to locate the purple orb. This will be where the capsule is located. Pick it up and return it to Pilaf to end the quest.

Substory #4 – Master

This quest is where Master Roshi will want you to fight and beat Krillin.

Substory #5 – Once a Teacher Always a Teacher

This quest is a fight between you and Piccolo, which begins once you talk to him. The quest ends when you defeat him.

Substory #6 – Crane School Scouting

This quest is given to you by Mercenary Tao and Master Shen who want you to defeat the robots.

Substory #7 – Animorphaline Accident

This quest begins when you talk to Korin, who will want you to get him some mushrooms that only grow in a cave. To get them, you need to go to the Continent Center area and then to the marked location. You will find Beastmen here that will not let you access the cave.

You then have to go to Bulma and talk to her about the animorphaline, and then go to Mr. Popo. Find the ingredients needed to make the antidote for the Beastmen. Once you have all the ingredients, return to Mr. Popo to complete the quest.

Intermission III

This part of the guide contains 9 substories.

Substory #1 – Frequently Attacked Villager

This Substory involves the old lady near Goku’s House who is being attacked by enemies yet again. You have to beat all the enemies that surround her to complete this quest.

Substory #2 – The Nutty Scientist

This Substory begins when you talk to Bulma, who wants you to help her father by finding three special rocks. The items you are looking for are Bulky Dogmalyte, Hard Dragolyte, Large Dorgalyte. The location of each of the rocks can be obtained from the man marked with the blue marker. Once you have the rocks, return to Bulma’s father and give him the rocks.

Substory #3 – Filling the Power Vacuum

This Substory requires you to play as Gohan and then defeat Appule. You can start this quest when you wish Appule back.

Substory #4 – No Dirty Fireworks for Me

This Substory begins when you wish to fight Cui again. Defeat Cui by playing as Vegeta to complete this quest.

Substory #5 – Little Nightmares

This Substory begins when you wish to fight Cells Jr again. Defeat Cells Jr by playing as Vegeta to complete this quest.

Substory #6 – Hyperbolic Time Chamber Renovations

This Substory starts when you talk to Dende as Gohan, and after helping him improve the Dragon Balls. Go to the Kami House to begin the quest, where Dende will require you to collect some materials and crystals from caves.

While the crystals can be found in caves marked in your map, you can find the Phantom Sand near Yamcha’s Hideout. Collect and bring all the materials back to Dende to complete this quest.

Substory #7 – Guardian Caretaker

This Substory begins when you play as Gohan and talk to Mr. Popo. He will need your help him find 15 Woodchips that can be found in Olive Village in East Ravine. Collect and bring them back to Mr. Popo to complete the quest.

Substory # 8 – An Awkward Pair

This Substory is available when you play as Piccolo and talk to Ox King. You are tasked with defeating Krillin in Kame House to complete the quest.

Substory #9 – Krillins Heart of Gold

This Substory requires you to play as Gohan and talk to Krillin. He will want you to go to a cave that has some robots that you have to beat.

Buu Saga

This part of the game contains 11 substories.

Substory #1 – Goten’s Growth

For this Substory, play as Gohan and talk to Goten in Goku’s House. You will then be tasked to find three Blue Fish which you can catch near the house. Once you have caught all the fishes, return to Goten and fight him to end the quest.

Substory #2 – Uninvited Training Partner

This quest is given to you by Videl when you play as Gohan. You are tasked by beating some robots to complete it.

Substory #3 – Daddy’s Little Girl

This Substory begins when you talk to Marron as Gohan. The task at hand is to catch a Blue Fish. Once you are done, you will get Marron’s Emblem.

Substory #4 – Toughening Up

This quest begins when you talk to Trunks as Gohan. The quest requires you to go to Blake Bog and beat Trunks in a battle.

Substory #5 – Chiaotzu The Champ

For this quest, you need to talk to Chiaotzu when playing Gohan. To complete the quest you have to 10 Deers for the villagers.

Substory #6 – The Great Ladiesman

This Substory begins when you talk to Erasa as Gohan. The quest will require you to beat robots and then participate in a race before you hit the ball out of the park.

Substory #7 – Anxious Android

This quest is given to you by Android 18, who is found in Kame House. The task in this quest is to find three Frozen Rabbit Meat, 12 River Shrimp and 3 High-Quality Onion.

Substory #8 – The Good Ol’ Days

In this quest, you will have to talk to the Announcer at the World Tournament Arena. The quest begins when you have to fight a robot.

Substory #9 – Teachings for Tomorrow

To begin the quest, talk to Nam and then travel to West City. You have to talk to the farmer here and finish the time attack to complete the quest

Substory #10 – Far Beyond Frieza

This quest begins when you talk to Supreme Kai. You have to beat Frieza to complete the quest.

Substory #11 – Super Saibaman

This quest begins when you talk to Saibamen. Talk to them and win a few fights against them to end the quest.
