Capcom has announced that it will be shutting down Dragon’s Dogma Online by the end of this year on December 5. This will bring the adventure to a close after just four years of its launch back in 2015.
The announcement also included messages from Produce Minae Matsukawa, Executive Producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi, and the director Kento Kinoshita. Both the developers hope that they continue to develop the Dragon’s Dogma series in the future.
Dragon’s Dogma is currently available for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and PC, and will continue to be available until the shutdown of the online servers. But Capcom will stop offering downloads of the game client and all DLC across all platforms from July 11. So if you haven’t played the game, and want to give it a try, you can do so before Thursday, next week.
Capcom provides the reason behind the decision, saying that the initial plan of the game was to run it for longer and in a way that players could enjoy. However, During the planning of Season 4, it became difficult for the developing team to continue providing satisfactory service.
On the other hand, Capcom just released Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen this April on the Nintendo Switch. The game costs $29.99 and came with all the previously released content and DLC. The game looked identical to the game that was first released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 back in 2013.
There is also a Dragon’s Dogma animated series that will be coming on Netflix. The streaming service company had announced a partnership with Sublimation Inc. to work on Dragon’s Dogma series.
