Developer and publisher Funcom has announced the release date for Dune: Awakening, its grand-scale multiplayer survival game. Dune: Awakening releases on PC via Steam, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S on May 20, 2025. If you cannot wait until then, and you are a PC player, you can head over to the game’s official page and download a brand-new Character Creator and Benchmark Mode. If you create a character from the Character Creator, it will be a permanent character and if you purchase the full game later, you will be able to import it into it to begin the game with it.

Funcom has also announced that pre-orders for Dune: Awakening will go live soon and all players who pre-order the game will receive the Terrarium of Muad’Dib. This beautiful item is for in-base decoration, and it will house the infamous desert mouse. After placing the terrarium in your base, you can inspect the daily life of your very own desert mouse within the comforts of your base.
If you download the Character Creator and create a character, you will not only create your in-game character early but also receive the exclusive Frameblade knife skin which will be redeemable in the game at launch. The Character Creator will allow you to take the Gom Jabber test and create your very own character. The options will include fine-tuning the looks of the character and choosing a home planet, caste, and mentor. You can choose from Swordmaster, Bene Gesserir, Mentat, or Trooper. You can also select your starting abilities. Additional Schools become available gradually with story progression.
If you want to test whether your PC is powerful enough to run the full game when it comes out, it also comes with a Benchmark Mode which will allow you to check your PC’s hardware performance and system compatibility by playing some scenes from the full game. The scenes include soaring with an ornithopter and an encounter with a sandworm. Dune: Awakening is based on Frank Hurbert’s sci-fi novel and Legendary Entertainment’s award-winning films. Funcom’s team of veteran developers are behind Dune: Awakening and it seems to be one of the most ambitious projects for the franchise.
The base game is priced at $49.99, and you can secure your pre-orders soon. While the Character Creator is only available on PC via Steam, Dune: Awakening will also be released on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Additional details about the game will be revealed later.
