Dying Light 2 developer Techland has announced a partnership with Square Enix as its new publisher for the second title in the Dying Light series. According to the new partnership, the game will be published by Square Enix in the Americas.
Dying Light 2 was announced last year at E3 2018 and is the sequel to the post-apocalyptic zombie survival game. We will be getting more details of the game this month at E3 2019 which is less than a couple of weeks away.
Head of Marketing over at the Poland-based Techland, Ed Lin, said that the studio is excited to partner with Square Enix, stating,
We couldn’t be more excited to join forces with Square Enix. This partnership represents an incredible opportunity for both companies to bring Modern Dark Ages to audiences across Americas. Our partnership kicks off this year at E3 and we are looking forward to a great campaign that showcases the fan favorite Dying Light DNA in the expansive and savage world of the infected.
On the other hand, Square Enix also announced the partnership over at their end, stating that the company had signed on to distribute Dying Light 2 in the Americas. While the extent of the partnership has not been revealed, it is not full-fledge publishing, which typically includes funding development. Instead, Square Enix will presumably be responsible for the manufacturing of the physical editions and working with platform holders to get the digital versions on the various storefronts.
John Heinecke, Chief Marketing Officer at Square Enix stated,
We’re thrilled to be partnering with Techland on one of the industry’s most anticipated games, Dying Light 2. The game is setting up to be an innovative, ambitious project, and we believe players will be delighted with what they deliver. This game fits incredibly well into our portfolio, and we’re looking forward to showing more at E3.
There are no other details other than we might to see the game this year. As E3 2019 is just around the corner, we will more than likely get more gameplay videos, game details, and confirmed release date as well.
