Tree Sentinel is one of the optional bosses in Elden Ring who is found in Limgrave. You will spot this horse mounted knight roaming in outside the Stranded Graveyard, where this boss may look easy to take down, but he will destroy you in seconds. This guide Elden Ring Tree Sentinel Boss Guide will show you how to beat this boss, what attacks he will hit you with, and the rewards he drops.
Before you decide to take on the Tree Sentinel, make sure you have leveled up enough or at the least have a decent powerful weapon. As an optional boss, you don’t have to fight him the first time you see him, but you can always return when your character is somewhat better than before. This is also important because the fight becomes much easier if you have your Torrent your horse, who becomes available in the early stages of the game.
Beating the Tree Sentinel will give you the following rewards:
- 3,200 Runes
- Golden Halberd

If you have Torrent alongside you, you can basically run around Tree Sentinel and hit it whenever you get close to him, like in a jousting match. Although, this fight will take its time to conclude, you will have to watch out for the boss’ attacks which can also take out your horse, leaving you open for the devastating attacks that are to follow.
To counter this, you can bring yourself some Rowa Raisins to feed Torrent during the battle. This item heals Torrent from all the damage that it will take over time.
The Tree Sentinel uses both its axe and shield for its main attacks, while using his horse to rear and bash in front of it where you are likely to be standing. All of the attacks can be dodged away or in front to place you perfectly behind the boss, and to counter attack from this new position.
The Tree Sentinel will also leap at you when trying to close the distance and trying to hit you with combos. Watch out for these attacks as they are usually indicated by their animations, allowing you time to dodge or block.
In the second phase of the fight, Tree Sentinel will use a few new attacks, starting with the jump and smash on the ground that sends out a shockwave in all directions around the boss. Getting caught in this shockwave will deal a lot of damage, so make sure you dodge back as soon as you se ethe boss jumping up in the air.
If you don’t fancy a challenge and are more of a player that wants to get done with the fight, you can basically cheese the boss by getting yourself on top of the many objects in the area, giving you enough elevations for the boss to never reach you. You can then follow up with your spell attacks to consistently deal damage to the boss and eventually defeat it.
