Epic Games has revealed and soft-launched a new browser-based tool MetaHuman Creator that will allow people especially developers to create hyper-realistic human faces. The tool MetaHuman Creator is powered by Unreal Engine and will help developers to create more realistic body movements and facial animations. A trailer gives us a sneak peek into the new tool and calls the new designs ‘metahumans’.
According to Epic’s official reveal, the tool can be used in conjunction with modern motion capture and animation techniques that will help them create lifelike movements and human interactions scenes built for video games, film, TV, and any other digital animation format. Epic details that these metahumans can be created in minutes and they even come with hairstyles and clothing. After the basic creation, the creator can further tailor them to meet the requirements of the scene as well. All of this can be easily done by staying inside the tool on a web browser.
Vladimir Mastilovic, Epic’s vice president of digital humans technology said:
Up until now one of the most arduous tasks in 3D content creation has been constructing truly convincing digital humans. Even the most experienced artists require significant amounts of time, effort, and equipment, just for one character. After decades of research and development, and thanks to bringing companies like 3Lateral, Cubic Motion, and Quixel into the Epic family, that barrier is being erased through Unreal Engine, and we’re thrilled to introduce MetaHuman Creator.
Unreal Engine is already one of the best video game development engines currently available in the market and with the launch of its new MetaHuman Creator, we can say that we can expect to see a lot more hyper-realistic characters featuring excellent facial animations in the future. A free sample of the tool is now available, and you can try it out as well for creating some MetaHumans. You can also sign up for future updates which will keep you in the loop for all updates that the game will receive in the coming days.
