Rockfish Games has announced that it has delayed the launch of its space looter shooter Everspace 2, which will now be released next year in January. The developer cited Cyberpunk 2077’s latest release date which was clashing with the game.
In addition, the developer has also decided to send out pre-release keys for the closed beta to Kickstarter backers who pledged for the game.
Michael Schade, CEO and founder of Rockfish Games shared a short statement,
Porting the original EVERSPACE to last-gen consoles was quite a challenge for us back in the day, so we can only imagine what a challenge it must be to bring a massive title like Cyberpunk 2077 to Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
Unfortunately, this is also a major blow for any other game that was scheduled during that week. We know from our community that there is quite an audience overlap between the two titles, so we decided to get out of the way and push back our release to January. We are aware that EVERSPACE 2 fans will be unhappy, but competing with the arguably most anticipated video game in history is just not a good idea.
To give this a positive spin, we’ve decided to send out pre-release keys with closed Beta access to all eligible Kickstarter backers on November 2nd, so they will be able to play the first 10ish hours of EVERSPACE 2 a month earlier. Furthermore, we also plan to give away 200 additional Beta pre-release keys good for the closed beta only through media partners and our weekly community streams to ease the pain for a few lucky space pilots.
Everspace 2 picks up the story right where the first game ended. Players play as one of the surviving clone pilots and they are faced with the remnants of their past. The cloning program has been canceled and the colonial authorities have placed a bounty on them. Survival is now more important than ever. Players will need to evolve from a former military clone to a truly real person if they want to survive in the world of EVERSPACE 2.
Here is everything the closed beta of Everspace 2 comes with:

ROCKFISH Games delivered an absolute blast of a sequel with EVERSPACE 2 and we have its wonderful Accolades Trailer to prove it, alongside the Incursions Update, the teaser trailer for its Drake: Gang Wars update, Xbox Game Pass arrival trailer, Zharkov: The Vortex Update, First Early Access Update trailer, detailed roadmap reveal, Early Access Preview, and Early Access Launch announcement trailer. EVERSPACE 2 started its journey as a Kickstarter project during which it showcased in-game locations, HOTAS support, exclusive Closed Beta, gameplay trailers, Closed Alpha, and Concept Art.
Its Early Access launch was delayed on two separate occasions, one in March 2020 and then again in November 2020. Its Kickstarter campaign had a massive goal of $493,000 which was achieved on its final campaign day. The developer kept gamers in the loop with a regular influx of new information during this period. We were lucky enough to get our hands on an early access prototype of the game back in May 2020 for our preview.
