Solo developer Made From Strings and publisher Dionous Games have released a new dev diary for their upcoming murder mystery game Murder On Space Station 52. Titled “Agatha Christie in Space, the latest video, presented by developer Christopher Mathes, offers a deep dive into the game’s unique art style, providing fans with a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process that brings the game’s noir-inspired visuals to life.

In the video, Mathes reveals how his hand-drawn ink illustrations evolve from monochrome sketches on paper to the vibrant art-deco sci-fi environments that define the game’s aesthetic. He discusses the artistic inspirations behind the game, which draw heavily from classic sci-fi and film noir elements, and explains how these influences shape both the visual design and the atmospheric tone of Murder On Space Station 52. The dev diary showcases meticulous attention to detail that goes into crafting the game’s world, which is filled with rich textures and intricate backgrounds that immerse you in the eerie, isolated setting of Space Station 52.

The diary also offers a closer look at the unique characters populating the station, each one hand-crafted by Mathes. These characters, who serve as potential suspects in the game’s central mystery, are designed with distinctive traits that make them memorable and add depth to the narrative. As Edward Locke, the new repairman on the station, you must unravel the mystery of the “Keychain Killer,” a murderer who leaves their victims with keys embedded in their wounds. As Locke, you will piece together clues, interrogate suspects, and gradually fill out a murder board to connect the dots in a classic point-and-click adventure style.

The game offers modern twists on traditional adventure game mechanics as you earn in-game currency while exploring, which can be used to customize Locke’s apartment and populate an aquarium with bizarre and curious creatures from around the station. This adds an element of personal investment and customization that enhances the game’s immersive qualities. This is just one of the examples of what you can do in the game while you are not solving the murder mystery.
