In this Gears 5 Horde Mode Abilities Guide, we will guide you on everything that you need to know about the brand new hero abilities for Gears 5 Horde Mode. For the first time ever, Heroes are more than simply a visual skin in Gears 5. In Horde Mode, each character that you pick now comes with their own unique ability which comes super handy while you are dealing with your enemies in Horde Mode.
We have curated this Gears 5 Horde Mode Abilities Guide in which we have detailed everything about the brand new hero abilities in Gears 5. At launch, there are a limited number of heroes present in the game but more heroes might arrive later in the game as DLC. In addition, some of the characters detailed below are pre-order bonuses such as the characters from the Terminator Pack so if you did not pre-order the game, you might not have them in your game.
Horde Mode Abilities Guide – Gears 5
Our Gears 5 Horde Mode Abilities Guide details the ultimate abilities of every character in Gears 5 Horde Mode and also some details as to what makes them special.
Artillery Strike – JD
JD’s ultimate ability is Artillery Strike which as the name suggests calls down a heavy barrage of artillery shells on the map. The ability allows you to mark different opponents on the screen and then unleash hell on them. This is similar to the helicopter strikes in the final act of Gears of War 4. This is an excellent ability for crowd control or bosses.
Barrier – Mac
Mac deploys this shield around himself as his ultimate ability. It protects Mac from incoming attacks for a small amount of time.
Camouflage – Kait
With the help of her ultimate ability, Kait can turn invisible and move in-between the enemies killing them with stealth executions. Make sure you don’t wander off too far from your squad or once it is back to normal, you will be the center of attention between the enemies.
Drop-Shield – Emile
Drop-Shield is much similar to Mac’s barrier but it is only bigger in size. Once deployed on the battlefield, you and your squadmates can enter this shield and they will be protected from all incoming fire. Another major drawback is that no one from the inside can shoot outside as well making this as only a defensive ability.
Electroblade – Lahni
Strictly a close combat ability, Lahni can whip out her electroblade and electrocute enemies quickly with it. Not very effective in enemy groups or against heavy enemies however it is excellent for getting out of tight spots quickly.
Heavy Hitter – Sarah Conner
Just like the name of the ability suggests, once activated, Sarah Conner uses her heavy weapons and unleashes hell on the horde. Each hit not only stuns the enemy but also knocks them back from her. This is a good ability to use if you are getting cornered by multiple enemies.
Hijack – Jack
Jack makes his debut in Gears 5 Horde Mode and comes with the ultimate ability, Hijack. Jack deploys a node in the enemy’s nervous system and takes over them. Enemies taken over by Jack’s Hijack ability will be on your side for some time.
Hologram – KAT-B320
In my opinion, this is the most useless ultimate ability for any character in the game. KAT-B320 creates a projection of itself which runs away from you drawing away fire from you. Players might find it useful but for me, this particular ability was absolutely useless in the later waves where enemies are smarter and deadlier.
Living Legend – Marcus
Marcus’s ultimate is just like his legacy in the world of Gears of War, amazing. With this activated, each hit from Marcus’s gun is a headshot. With that said, you don’t even have to aim at your enemies’ heads when this ultimate is active. It is like a mod which auto-aims at your enemies’ heads and pops them every time you push the trigger.
Reinforce – Del
Until Gears 5, Del was the most useless character in the game. His ultimate is a pretty decent one as it allows Del to call in some Deebee reinforcements. Several Deebee Trackers are deployed on the map which follow the enemies around and attack them.
Resupply – Keegan
Resupply is strictly a support ability in Gears 5. With it is activated, Keegan will help the entire team with a fresh supply of ammo.
X-Ray – FAHZ
X-Ray is a pretty cool ability used by FAHZ as it allows FAHZ to look throw walls and barriers and even shoot throw them. The range is not too much but it still useful to shoot enemies from behind a wall safely.
