Sucker Punch has announced that their latest release Ghost of Tsushima is getting a new online co-op multiplayer mode that will arrive as a free download for all players later this year. The new mode is called Legends and is inspired by Japanese mythology. Legends will be a separate mode that will not follow Jin or any of his companions from his journey.
Instead, it focuses on four warriors who have been built up as legends in stories told by people of Tsushima. Unlike the game’s singleplayer campaign, Legends is haunting and fantastical with locations and enemies inspired by Japanese folk tales and mythology. It also emphasizes more on cooperative combat and action. Darren Bridges, Senior Game Designer, Sucker Punch Productions explains:
We designed Legends to be an exclusively cooperative gameplay experience. You’ll be able to partner up with friends or via online matchmaking and play Legends in groups of 2-4 players. Each player can choose from one of four different character classes: the Samurai, Hunter, Ronin, or Assassin. Each class has unique advantages and abilities that we’ll reveal in the future.
In Legends, two players will be able to play a series of co-op story missions that will escalate in difficulty, building on the foundation of combat from the singleplayer campaign but with new magical twists that often require careful synchronization with your partner. Having 4 players in your party will give you access to wave-based survival missions where you will fight with groups of some of the toughest enemies Tsushima has to offer.

The Survival missions will also feature a brand new enemy type Oni that comes with supernatural abilities. Apart from the Story and Survival missions, you can also take part in the four-player Raid that will arrive after the release of Ghost of Tsushima: Legends. The Raid will send you and your partners to a new realm where you will challenge a brutal, terrifying enemy. Additional information such as character classes, customization, and more will be shared closer to launch.
