Gigabyte has unveiled a new concept for mounting GPUs that is different from both the horizontal and vertical mountings. Gigabyte has come up with an angled shroud design which provides a whole new way to mount your graphics card.
In some cases, the orientation of the graphics card has caused issues. Most of the issues stem from vertical mounting choking out the airflow to the GPU since the intake of the card is too close to the side panel.
Vertically mounting a graphics card tends to be more aesthetically pleasing as it displays the fans as well as the front side of the card. On the other hand, horizontal mounting is more common as it provides better airflow to the graphics card. However, horizontal mounting is not that aesthetically pleasing if you aren’t using a custom backplate.
Horizontally mounted graphics cards show the usually plain backplate on the top and the more decorated front side with fans is facing downward. Vertical mounting is more aesthetically pleasing, but in some cases do not have enough room so the fans end up having little airflow.
The Angle Shroud design is a mid-point between the horizontal and vertical mounting. Although it is a good attempt, the orientation looks to solve neither problem as the fans will not be shown in horizontal mounting and it will look extremely awkward in vertical mounting.
The render appears to have two large heatsinks connected via copper heat pipes, one attached to the board and the other is on the bottom side. All of this cooled by two fans. The connectivity features 3 HDMI ports and the outdated VGI port.
The Angle Shroud design is not real and just a render was shared by AORUS Spain Twitter. It looks like it was an April fools joke as the design not even functional.
